The most mind-blowing soundtrack we've ever had...

i ordered mine from Amazon since Best Buy didnt have it...it arrived in only a couple of days. I love the soundtrack (although i didnt after only one listen-through. it took a couple).

I agree, the piece played during the George Kirk sacrifice montage is wonderful and very moving. I still cry when i listen to it. (How geeky am i?)

I am having a bit of a time though, trying to figure out what music was played when for most of the rest of the soundtrack. Does anyone know precisely what piece is for what scene? I'd really like to know.

Oh, meant to mention that although i do love this soundtrack, my all time favorite is still the one for First Contact. THAT one continues to blow me away!

I think I broke at least two of my FC cd's just from the punishment of listening to them with extreme frequency.

I like the main theme of the new film and thought the rendition of the original theme at the end was very interesting. While it wasn't the most awe inspiring version, it was certainly one of the most throwback versions I've heard.

And while I agree with Dennis that it can be a tad repetitive in places, it's not over-the-top or anything and doesn't detract from enjoying the good tracks. Yeah, this soundtrack is dripping with win.

I enjoyed some of the soundtrack but a good portion of it was forgettable. Enterprising Young Men was outstanding though

I really loved the soundtrack to Trailer #3. that kind of clinched this thing for me. before that, I was meh. after I heard that and watched the trailer -- I was like holeee sheeeet!! I gotta go watch this movie!!!

I have to say, throughout two or three years of rumors and news, the first time it really felt real to me that Star Trek was coming back was when I heard that track play at the beginning of the movie. Suddenly it hit me that it was all real.

Enjoyable track, especially at the beginning. That said, as a whole, I didn't enjoy the soundtrack. To me, it was rather generic and just pales in comparison to TMP's score, for example.

Enterprising Young Men has to be right up there with the very best of Alexander Courage... it makes me wanna stand up with conductor's stick in hand and get right into it. I've had it on loop for days now... I think I might be in heaven. *Sigh*

The percussions, right at the very end, especially - holy fucking fuck!

More or less agreed. I just listened to the soundtrack CD last night from beginning to end and tracks like "Enterprising Young Men" just plain blow me away.

The soundtrack worked very well within the context of the movie. I have listened to it multiple times, and I think many of the musical motifs are both moving, and well thought out. I do think as I listen more, that it is a bit repetetive. I wouldn't rate above Horner's WOK score, especially the mutara nebula sequence. I do think it was a very well done score. I'm looking to see how he develops his themes in the next movie. Also, I would like to have more of the score on the album. I know they don't release every cue, but this one seemed overly short.

Just my 2 cents!

Finally managed to get it off eBay, since it has not appeared in any store here as far as I can tell.

It's certainly quite good. I think First Contact is better and TMP is clearly the best, but it's enjoyable enough. Enterprising Young Men is the only track I would pay for if I were getting them individually, though.

Incidentally, I love the way Windows Media Player identifies one track as "That New Cat Smell"...

I hate to say it, but I'm unimpressed by the soundtrack - and I'm a big fan of Giacchino, and was expecting it to be epic. To me, nothing stands out other than the re-used cues from TOS, and even they only stand out because they're familiar, not because they are themselves substantive - they're just homages to past greatness. I'd seriously hoped for better, regardless of how I felt about the film's plot, visuals or characters; this is no Incredibles soundtrack, by any means, nor nearly up to the level of TMP. YMMV - I'm gonna go listen to Pirates of the Caribbean ;).

Do you have the extra tracks (like Flight of Pheonix) that are not on the retail FC cd? If not I got 3 of them i can get you.

Ah, yes. That would be "Freedom Fighters" from Two Steps from Hell. It easily owns almost all other trailer music I've heard (even from TSFH).

Never underestimate a good trailer. A LOT of people I know were sold on ST09 based solely on that trailer. The Lion King trailer, even after all these years, is still quite moving and is still a benchmark.

Just remembering something I saw a week or two back, over in the GTD forum, where someone took that music track and synced it to a sequence from the end of The Voyage Home. Did a nice job of it, too, I thought.

I confess, that was me. ;)

I actually have a better version of it that I might put on youtube. Not sure if that's overkill or not.

That track is probably the best cue of the year. I love the reveal of the Enterprise, and the usage of it in the title is stunning. That main title is beautiful.
