The most important debate

It's almost Fall, and the brings about some of my favorite foods. But a debate always comes up...

Is it Car-a-mel, or Car-mel?

Three syllables.

I pronounced it "car-mel" when I was around six years old and thought that library was pronounced like "lie-berry." And one time we even had a substitute teacher who could only pronounce library that way.

Kor

I first noticed it popping up around 10-15 years ago, and I figured it was a southern thing, with the vowels getting smooshed together. Personally, I pronounce Car-a-mel. In French, the vowels are even more pronounced.

I've been watching the US Food Channel.. and .. well, liqueur. I would say 'lic cure' (on cooking shows) they often say 'lic ker' or 'lic kor'. Definitely heard the 'car mel' thing too. My accents tends to go 'cara mill' which is all kinds of wrong too probably.

Liqour is just another name for alcohol, Liqueur is a specifc type of alcholol.
