It may not be a popular opinion, but I’m saving Encounter at Farpoint. I really liked the TNG pilot. Some of that is probably nostalgia..being an unbelievably excited 7th grader about to see new Star Trek on TV for the first time ever….but I do love this episode.

I'm going to save DS9, Season 3: "The Search, Part I". It might not have had the best resolution as two-parters go, but on its own it was a fantastic episode that finally introduced us to the series' most dangerous threat, the Dominion, and Starfleet's most powerful weapon, Michael Eddington. Also we got the USS Defiant!

A Time to Stand was the epic opening of the Occupation Arc, and it had so much going on. Bashir, of all people, was feeling depressed at the mounting casualty reports, whilst Quark is comparing occupations, reckoning that this one isn't so bad. Of course, things will change for him, and everyone else on the station.

The Vulcan Hello. It's bold and divisive. It doesn't always get it right. But it's never boring. From trekking a Starfleet Delta in the desert sand to space walking on a malign Klingon artefact, as a Season and Series opener this episode does the business.

"Unimatrix Zero, Part II" - I love the concept of Unimatrix Zero, a threat that scares the Borg Queen that she's willing to kill thousands of drones. It's a shame we didn't see the liberated drones again.

Apocalypse Rising is a great start to DS9's fifth season. Seeing Odo mulling over being a human, and drinking beer on his break. Infiltrating the Klingon Empire as well was an interesting step for the Klingon War arc to take.

Arghhh, slipped past again. But I will save "The Child", since it gave us the debut of the awesome Dr. Pulaski. And I liked the scene with Troi and Data at Ian's birth.

I'm saving "Descent, Part II". I liked seeing Dr Crusher in command. It would have been nice to see her in command more in the final season, although perhaps that would need Riker to become a captain of another ship or Picard to become an admiral and Data to become first officer (I would love to have seen Data be a first officer).

I'm going to save TNG, Season 5: "Redemption II", even though Data hijacks Worf's episode. It combines the ongoing Klingon High Council story arc with the ongoing Romulan scheming and makes the Star Trek universe feel a little bit more connected and epic as a result.

Image In The Sand is a very somber opening to season 7. Worf is struggling to cope with Jadzia's death, whereas Sisko and Jake moved back to Earth as a result of that as well. I liked the mystery of the unknown woman, and just when they're about to set off, Ezri turns up. "It's me, Dax," was a great cliffhanger for the next episode, even if I never properly warmed to Ezri. ;)

VOY, Season 2: "The 37's" because, even though the idea that none of the crew would choose to stay on the planet by the end is kind of stupid, I really quite liked Janeway's interaction with Emilia Earhart.

Eliminating ENT, Season 1: Broken Bow

Not a bad series' (not just a season's) pilot, even if it had its problems and was a tad uneven in some of its execution. It at least does a decent job of explaining earth's position as new kids on the block, with technology that's inferior to almost anyone out there, resentment against the Vulcans, their inexperience at handling interstellar diplomacy, and so on.

(Disclaimer: Never have seen TAS, ST, or LD, and only have seen DIS once or twice up until S3, so I can't really eliminate one of those).

By far,

LD, Season 1: "Second Contact"

Engaging and fun and spirited, it also covers a fresh topic that Trek never explored before. Fresh as in "invigorating", not "stinky"...
