Game The Most Disliked Season Premiere

My next save is "APOCALYPSE RISING".

DS9's 5th season premiere had a lot working for it. It could easily have been a two-parter itself. Finding out Martok was the Changeling, how they put the idea in Odo's head it was Gowron instead, Dukat the renegade (complete with baldric, no less), the Klingon initiation ritual... it was a great way to start the season. (And was the 99th episode, so it was awesome having a one-two punch of great episodes.) And the really fun part... Sisko and the gang as Klingons.

"What's the matter? Haven't you ever seen a Klingon before?" (Sisko laughs)

As an old Amelia Earhart fangirl, I enjoyed "The 37s." It was fun to see Janeway getting to meet a hero of hers, and Noonan's (hey, is that Officer Tackleberry?!?) infatuation with the oblivious Earhart was cute. And while I will be first to admit the scene at the end where Janeway and Chakotay went to the cargo bay was predictable as hell, I still found it moving.

I've removing Redemption pt II. TNG has a reputation for flubbing the conclusion with at least every episode, not entirely living up to the setup. Redemption II isn't up to par with Redemption I, but it does not fall as far. It also has great moments for Worf and Data.

I have never considered "Basics" as "good" in the usual sense of the word, but it is an adored guilty pleasure. I've watched it many more times than "Scorpion", which actually is good. "Basics" is like the Platonic ideal of a cheesy 90's cliffhanger. It throws in so much ridiculouslness at the end of part 1 -- volcanoes! lizard monsters! cave people! Paris blows up maybe! psycho gets loose on ship and is our only hope! -- and then part 2 is just running down the list of wacky cliffhangers they've set up.

And I was quite happy to send the Kazon packing.

Plus, we have an EXTREMELY rare sighting of Samantha Wildman interacting with her child. That only happens what, twice? (I guess we could blame it on "Deadlock." Samantha never did bond with this duplicate baby from the duplicate Voyager!

I'm so late, I missed most of the best ones. :(

I'm removing Equinox Part 2, it's not perfect but I love Janeway not giving a shit anymore and hunting the Equinox down. It's a guilty pleasure and always fun to rewatch.

Shedding a light on "NIGHT". The concept was good, though the Malon were kind of garbage. (Pun intended.)

Seeing Voyager going through that emptiness was quite eerie.

A decent start to season 5, complete with a long overdue regret discussion with Janeway.

The Xindi is just great!
Xindi-Arc starts with very promising elements like: conflict at Xindi council, MACO's first action, first touch with Expanse's societies and physically conditions, new path of always existing Trip/T'Pol dynamics, trauma of crew...

My next save is DS9's Image in the Sand. I quite like all the three stories going on here. Sisko being back on Earth is good as I always liked the Sisko family dynamic. The whole picture of the mysterious woman and learning his real history was fascinating, as was the introduction of Ezri.

I also enjoyed Kira in command at DS9 with Odo, seeing her developing relationship with Cretak. I always found it a missed opportunity she didn't become a recurring character in S7 as the Romulans were always just kind of there after they entered the war.

Was Worf being angry at Jadzia's death having no honour, an acknowledgement that it was poorly executed? ;)

"BEYOND THE FARTHEST STAR" is my next save. TAS should get some love, and I truly thought this was a cool episode. The ship was a unique one, and I wish there was some way to make it work in live action.

TAS, Season 2: "The Pirates Of Orion"
TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
VOY, Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ENT, Season 2: "Shockwave, Part II"

The Vulcan Hello, I thought it was a good pilot with some strong performances and I loved Burnham's and Georgiou's relationship, the visuals were great too.

TAS, Season 2: "The Pirates Of Orion"
TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
VOY, Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ENT, Season 2: "Shockwave, Part II"
ST, Season 1: "Runaway"
ST, Season 2: "Q&A" [spoiler tag your elimination reasons for this episode]

Shockwave II was a great conclusion to a solid episode and one of the few times outside of Cold Front when the Temporal Cold War was handled competently. Of the episodes left, it is the clear winner as an entertaing hour of television with plenty of twists and turns and a well-developed threat that reaches its logical conclusion.

TAS, Season 2: "The Pirates Of Orion"
TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
VOY, Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ST, Season 1: "Runaway"
ST, Season 2: "Q&A" [spoiler tag your elimination reasons for this episode]

The Pirates of Orion; a fairly middling story by TAS standards, but there’s nothing really very wrong with it.

TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
VOY, Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ST, Season 1: "Runaway"
ST, Season 2: "Q&A" [spoiler tag your elimination reasons for this episode]

Unimatrix Zero Part 2. The borg queen was pretty ruthless and creepy and effective as a villain here.

TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
ST, Season 1: "Runaway"
ST, Season 2: "Q&A" [spoiler tag your elimination reasons for this episode]

Q&A shows us what a Short Trek could be:
a short vignette that explores two characters at an interesting point in their careers.

TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
ST, Season 1: "Runaway"

What a fun, unexpected winner! I also don't think I ever realized, till seeing "Unimatrix Zero" and "Descent" among the final four on this game, that both TNG and VOY's respective nadir's (IMO) with the Borg were in the same slot, the season 6 finales/season 7 premieres. Tough slot, I suppose!

THANK YOU to all who participated! I greatly enjoyed reading all your comments, it was fun -- and stress-relieving -- to watch this unfold. @Cutie McWhiskers, your write-up of "Evolution" inspired me to rewatch that ep last night, and I must say I enjoyed it more than I ever have before.

Going up now: "The Most Disliked Visit To Earth's Past." (We'll save "Most Disliked Season Finale" till we have "Picard's" finale to add to it) Hope to see you all there!

As the Most Disliked games continue, I'll post a growing master list of the winners at the ends of the thread. But since this is our first, here's the master list for the 2019 Least Disliked winners, if anyone is interested in revisiting those.
