Game The Most Disliked Romance-Of-The-Week Episode

The episode and a half I like are both still here! So I'll save "Resurrection", the full episode I like. What can I say, I was a Bareil fanboy back in the day. Now he seems so boring I don't even get it! I must have just thought he was non-threateningly cute, in that "teen idol" way.

But I do like how this episode just isolates and drills down on the most dramatically interesting question of the MU -- what is it like to meet the exact double of someone you have/had a close relationship with, someone who is exactly the person you know but also totally different?

TNG, Season 6: “Aquiel”
TNG, Season 6: "Birthright, Part I & II"
DS9, Season 2: “Second Sight”

Saving "Birthright, Part II" because the other two are painfully boring.

(Despite what I have discovered is a majority opinion, I'm actually on Worf's side here. Those kids were prisoners, and even worse, they never got to learn about their own culture or history. I think Worf was in the right to teach them.)

TNG, Season 6: “Aquiel”
DS9, Season 2: “Second Sight”

Second Sight had that quirky guest character, that thought a lot of himself. The romance part was deathly dull, but I'd rather watch that than Aquiel.

Aquiel is an absolute snoozefest, with the murder mystery pedestrian, and the love interest forgettable.

Aquiel wins!

TNG finally gets on the board! Hard to argue with the episode it won for. On paper it's such a good, noir-ish setup, but UGH does it not work in execution. Poor Geordi, always getting the short end of the stick.

Going up right away is the next one: "The Most Disliked Holiday Episode." Hope to see you all there!

Funny you should say that! To link it back to "Precious Cargo", as I posted upthread, that was actually the episode when I initially gave up on my Trek fandom (I had started missing episodes during VOY season 5, and kept missing them at progressively higher rates till "Precious Cargo" got me to intentionally stop). But to drill down more specifically, it was during the climax I thought to myself: "Trip is now wrestling in wet underwear, and I am still not liking it. If even Trip wrestling in wet underwear can't get you, you really are DONE with this show!"

Now this is making me feel I should have maybe saved "Two Days And Two Nights" this turn... maybe the next one... :bolian:

And as a huge fan of "Top Chef" (hosted by the same woman who guests as Kaitaama in "Precious Cargo"), I now even get a retroactive kick out of seeing her in Trek.
- Ha ha! PC must have been torturous for you if "even Trip wrestling in wet underwear" couldn't save it!

Choosing VOY, Season 6/7: "Unimatrix Zero,Part I & II"
I wasn't as pleased with this episode as I'd hoped I would be. I never really bought the idea that the hideaway could exist in the hive-mind. But there were some interesting aspects, the brutality of the Queen and the twist in the ending that Seven's friend was physically unreachable.

That "audio drama" they did for season 2 of Picard, "No Man's Land", had a great bit of Seven explaining her relationship history to Raffi. Her recounting of a first kiss in Unimatrix Zero was delightful and kind of made me feel positively towards the eps for the first time.

Yup. Even his "character shoots alien, alien keeps coming, character turns up phaser to full power and vaporizes alien" was the worst of the three I remember... Riker and Beverly both did it better.

John Carpenter's THE THING was an excellent horror movie. It truly utilized the paranoia of being in a confined area. Many shows have used that format, to varying degrees of success. (THE X-FILES season 1 episode "Ice" being probably the most blatant example.)
