[Seven of Five]

My trio of TOS saves is complete with The Corbomiter Maneuver. I love the way that the tension builds through this one, with the fact that the scary-looking alien being a puppet is a fun twist to help save the budget.

Seeing the crew explore Balok's ship at the end was a perfect conclusion.

[Brennyren]

"The Empath" is another TOS episode I've always liked. It's a uniquely stylized morality play -- and of course it's on the director to make something so stylized work! -- with atmosphere to burn. Kathryn Hays is exquisitely expressive as Gem. This episode showcases the bond between the Big Three as few other episodes do, and McCoy gets a rare turn as a hero, in his own irascible-but-loving way.

[Qonundrum]

There are some neat tactics used in

TOS Season 1: "The Squire Of Gothosy-looking " (Don McDougall)

The mirror shot is always a hard one to do, and this one gets it right.

The use of shadow is particularly nicely done, especially for the noose to evoke the audience with.

There's a nice scene when Kirk is surrounded by jail bars that appear out of nowhere - the one behind him uses an interesting bit of photographic trickery and it's not easy to spot.

Heck, even Trelane's nucular parents are rather nicely realized and directed.

The episode is an oddball, but the acting helps buoy it, and Trelane is proto-Q, which is something that TNG genuinely needed.

Yes, I know it's almost become a "you must hate this one if you're a true Trekkie!" one amongst fandom (see: Spock's Brain, TFF, Shades of Gray etc) but I think there's a lot to like in Nemesis and it's been judged far too harshly over the years.

Yes, I know it's almost become a "you must hate this one if you're a true Trekkie!" one amongst fandom (see: Spock's Brain, TFF, Shades of Gray etc) but I think there's a lot to like in Nemesis and it's been judged far too harshly over the years.

It's worth it to see a young Tom Hardy at work. Hard at work. He's acting his socks off.

"All Is Possible" is that rarest of things -- a Discovery episode where the A story is NOT about Michael Burnham. (I mean, I love Burnham, but a disinterest in sharing the spotlight has been a real drawback to the show) This was such a satisfying classic shuttle-crash plot, and a perfect write-out for Tilly. Great showcase for Adira as well, who I think is such a fantastic character.

Saving "Birthright, Part II".

I have never understood why many people hate this episode. Worf is teaching young Klingons about their own heritage, and in the end they leave the planet and you have a group of Klingons who have a positive view about Romulans who are going into society, probably helping to spread the idea that they are not all bad people. If anything, that reinforces what STAR TREK is about.
