Next up in these themed elimination games: Maquis Episodes!

THE RULES.
The basic idea is your standard elimination game. Below is a list of Maquis episodes from TNG, DS9, and VOY. Eliminate your FAVORITE or the one you deem the 'BEST.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed.

Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.

Removing For the Uniform for badassery! Totally over the top, fun military metaphors, complete with moustache twirling. Lots of speech making and gratuitous nautical phraseology!

DS9 shows sometimes "by the book" isn't always workable?

DS9 Season 5: "For The Uniform"

I could go on for ages why this episode rocks; the acting, the content... revenge-themed plots I'm a sucker for but this one really ups the ante. And Sisko is so good, even Worf doesn't rise up when you know the whole bridge crew is shocked over Sisko's orders and there's no spatial gassy anomaly thing that's invaded his hawt body as a cheesy excuse for "good guy gone bad". This is the sort of gray-area episode that sadly would become later overused as a plot trope. But here it works and impeccably well in what it has to do.

The pacing is almost too fast, disallowing time to breathe, but that also works to its advantage to sell the sort of feel necessary.

Lastly, if nothing else, at the same time as recalling all of that and now  to see this one again because Eddington is "Eddie Haskell in Space" done right, I thought of this TV show's sketch:

Or any episode of 1960s "Batman" like when Batman admonishes Robin for not putting a dime in the parking meter or needing a driver's license, etc...

(On edit: Great minds think alike but I lack the time to drool over another episode right now :( . )

Learning Curve from Voyager was really good. I actually wish they'd spent more time focusing on group integration in the show. Starfleet burnouts and civvies being forced to integrate into a ship marooned from all structure and civilization? Blending together Maquis and Starfleet doctrine? Combining the command structure? It was neglected throughout the show, but not in this episode. Seeing a flustered Tuvok is always enjoyable too.

Even if they did not want to focus too much on group tension, focusing on creating teamwork would have been a great motif for the series.

I suppose I would be remiss to not immediately save "The Maquis, Part I" -- the introduction of SAKONNA.

I also think it's a very good episode overall. I can't believe how well that cliffhanger works, given how predictable it is. But it's executed so satisfyingly, it doesn't matter!

An episode so badass, it was saved twice first ... or something.

I second that motion! :D

And now it's time for me to go all Sisko and remove

DS9 Season 2: "The Maquis Part II"

from the list as it still remains an all time top Trek outing, complete with one of Quark's best speeches.

Removing For The Cause. A fantastic episode often overlooked because it's in DS9's fourth season, which is over half fantastic episodes. Eddington got his heel turn, his (in)famous speech about the Federation, and is finally turned into an interesting character. Kasidy got a little bit of extra depth beyond being a love interest of Sisko. It's one of the many examples of an episode which upset the entire status quo of DS9, showing how firmly it did not believe in a "reset button."

Preemptive Strike: a very fitting conclusion to Ro's arc, with some nice character moments. I was glad they didn't have her reintegrate the crew, that would've been a cheesy ending. She was a misfit, and only in relating to her new mentor could she find a place in which she belonged.

I always thought "Dreadnought" was a great, tense little story. An early-years Voyager favorite of mine.

There were some really great Maquis episodes, weren't there?

"WORST CASE SCENARIO" is another one. A truly fun episode, and a highlight of the early years. Always a rewatch.

"Blaze of Glory" was, I think, the pinnacle of Eddington's arc as well as its conclusion. He and Sisko played off one another brilliantly, in an exciting, action-packed script that pushed us to root for both of them. What an episode!

I wish I could send Voyager some love on this next elimination, but honestly I like "Defiant" the best, despite the fact that I still find it annoying they never followed up on Thomas Riker again. But I think this one is a super fun "crossover", the setup with Kira & Riker flirting, and then the hard veer into the Maquis angle. Great Dukat development, cool guest character in Korinas. It's a winner.

I'll save Caretaker. I didn't enjoy it as much as Emissary, but it was still a great setup episode for the series. The Maquis seemed like they would be a genuine problem for Janeway at first.

All my favourites have been saved, and I’m not the biggest VOY fan, but I’m nevertheless gonna save “Prime Factors”. Been a decade since I rewatched the show, but I remember it as one of the stronger first season episodes, presenting a fairly pertinent moral dilemma for the crew. The most memorable thing about the episode was Janeway’s pronunciation of “pecan pie” in that delightfully gravelly voice of her’s: peCAAN PIE! It was unfamiliar to me as Brits would pronounce is “pea-can pie”. After than I always used Janeway’s pronunciation

Yikes, I don't particularly care for any of these, but I'll go with "Alliances" next. It is a failed episode due to execution problems, but it's the kind of story I wanted Voyager to try more.

I'll save Parallax next.

The mystery with the singularity isn't very exciting, but is a lot of nice character work here. I loved Neelix's bafflement at the crew willingly exploring on the way home, despite the danger. Janeway and Torres also found a pretty fast rapport. It's just a shame that the Maquis 'tension' was only revisited a few times.

TNG Season 7: "Journey's End"
VOY Season 4: "Hunters"
VOY Season 5: "Extreme Risk"
VOY Season 6: "The Voyager Conspiracy"

I was going to save "DEFIANT" next... someone already did, so my nect one was going to be "ALLIANCES". I genuinely enjoy that episode... great stuff in there, despite the Kazon being central.

So my next save is "HUNTERS". A sort of quiet episode, but a lot went on here.

TNG Season 7: "Journey's End"
VOY Season 5: "Extreme Risk"
VOY Season 6: "The Voyager Conspiracy"
VOY Season 7: "Repression"

Eliminating VOY Season 6: "The Voyager Conspiracy", with my stellar recommendation of 'not too bad, actually kind of entertaining to watch'

TNG Season 7: "Journey's End"
