I will start with a save for "Tacking Into The Wind." Did they ever land the Klingon story with this, it's a very satisfactory wrap-up to the 12 year arc of AQ Klingon's in Berman Trek. The writing is just so sharp. Ezri's "voice of the audience" jaded deconstruction of all the Klingon drama is a favorite scene of mine, and Worf's building realization that he must kill Gowron is excellent.

"THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR" is the way of awesomeness.

An excellent rebirth for DS9, this episode could not be more perfect. Excellent character beats for everyone, great action, rising tension, fantastic introduction of Worf that could easily have gone wrong, and as the cherry on top... one of THE best scenes in the entire franchise.

I love the vibe of "Heart Of Glory." There's a fair amount of incident, yet the plot is quite thin, which is ideal because it lets you just sink into that dreamy season 1 atmosphere, which I find so soothing -- especially now! And it's a great way to introduce the Klingons into the TNG era -- they have a powerfully alien feel here. And I like that it stalls on making any big decisions -- it's not telling us everything all about the whole state of the Klingon empire, they're starting with a small story of what's going on with a few Klingons. It's absolutely the right way to do it.

The cornball memory wipe ending aside, this episode definitely wanted to do what could not be done in TNG and the results are spectacular, fleshing out Klingon lore without feeling as drawn and worn out that TNG had became. DS9 was an ideal opportunity, given the premise OF the station and show, DS9 really was quite an allegory for for people needing to operate within a set of common rules and for the same reason. The reason of not killing one another being a fairly strong one.

[Seven of Five]

Reunion is my first save. It's easily my favourite Klingon story, with poor Worf being dragged through the ringer. It has the treacherous Duras, the wonderful K'Ehleyr, it's Gowron's first episode, and I loved that the Klingons trusted Picard enough to help to work out who the new Emperor would be.

Work killing Duras as revenge really set a different standard of how a main character should react in this situation. Obviously, Worf being a Klingon in Starfleet was one of those things the writers often came to in very interesting ways. Picard chewing Worf out for what he did was perfectly done by both Stewart and Dorn.

Original draft from DC or what was filmed, there's still a story with bold ideas afoot. Even given the constraints of 1967 censors.To me, there's something about Star Trek and exploring significantly different fictional cultures. (DS9 did it by far the best but all things considered, for mid/late-1960s, Friday's Child still does an intriguing and good job at presenting something so different.)

Regardless of what does work, it still needs to be said: Contriving the situation so heavyhandedly with the security guy stomping in just to get killed just to get the story rolling just does not work. Everything discussed prior to it suggests delicacy; in such a sensitive situation you don't bring in the newbie in the squad that just drank a pot of coffee five minutes earlier. That's just dumb. But then there'd be no story and there's much to enjoy, even the cat'n'mouse chase. So it's forgivable.

This was an example of a PERFECTLY placed episode in a season. After the war heavy 6 episode arc at the beginning of season 6 (7 episodes if you count the 5th season finale.), a breather was needed. It was a celebration episode in every respect. We got an awesome Klingon wedding. We got fun scenes the entire time, with some very wise emotional wisdom coming from Martok.

I would no simply because it focuses on Torres wanting her child to NOT be Klingon. It has her childhood experiences of her dad leaving because she and Miral are Klingons, but I don't think the episode's Klingonness, if that can be a word, is strong enough.

Saving The Undiscovered Country as the last of the great TOS films. For its timeliness, for its presentation of flawed Feddies and honorable Klingons (as well as the reverse, of course), for Captain Hikaru Sulu, for Christopher Plummer's toothmarks in so very many pieces of scenery, for Shakespeare in the original Klingon, and for awesome lines like:

"I'm off to bed. Let me know if there's some other way we can screw up tonight."
"What is it with you, anyway?"
"I'd pay real money if he'd shut up."
"If I were human, I believe my response would be 'Go to Hell!' ...If I were human."
And that lovely, lovely exchange between Azetbur and Kirk:
"You've restored my father's faith."
"And you've restored my son's."

And, of course, for a thrilling plot. Really, this movie just does not belong on any list of bad things.
