Game The Most Disliked Holiday Episode

Removing TOS, Season 1: "Dagger Of The Mind" from the list. Dancing with Helen Noel :adore: at a Christmas Party! Best Christmas ever! :techman: Evil villain with a hypnosis ray harks back to the Flash Gordon days.

Taking out "DEATH WISH". A great episode, one of the best uses of Q. Excellent moral dilemma, and all actors brought their A game.

After saving "Mortal Coil", I'll now save "Homestead." Aside from the fact that they couldn't even be bothered to toss in one line explaining how they found this impossibly distant colony of Talaxians, it's an excellent wrap-up for Neelix. And the First Contact Day party scene is a lot of fun.

List is shrinking fast. I'm going to strike off Emissary. It was far from the best DS9 episode - but it was a great pilot, which managed to introduce us to all of the main characters, have an engaging plot, and create an initial character arc with some semblance of closure for Sisko. Honestly it's remarkable how much was done well in such a short period of time.

I remember you, "Remember Me"! You were a fun episode with some great lines, and one of Beverly Crusher's better outings.

CRUSHER: It's all perfectly logical to you, isn't it? The two of us roaming about the galaxy in the flagship of the Federation. No crew at all.
PICARD: We've never needed a crew before.

CRUSHER: If this was a bad dream, would you tell me?
COMPUTER: That is not a valid question.
CRUSHER: Like hell it's not.

CRUSHER: Here's a question you shouldn't be able to answer. What is the nature of the universe?
COMPUTER: The universe is a spheroid region seven hundred and five metres in diameter.

CRUSHER: If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe.

I find "11:59" a delight. It's so bold to just have a straight-up Christmas love story as a Star Trek episode. The biggest thing I miss about 26 episode seasons is that it afforded enough real estate to just wander completely off the reservation like this. I always like when Berman Trek would take one week and transform into a baseball movie, or a horror movie, or a Western, or whatever random tangent briefly enticed the writers off the path...

Impulse was so much fun that it will be my first save. Season three was the beginning of a different style of action for ENT, and they did a great job with it in particular here.

Abra-cadabra! Another save from me for the psychedelic animation in which our valiant Captain Kirk literally defends the devil. The style was pure 70s, and the deed was pure audacity, and so "The Magicks of Megas-Tu" gets to magick its way out of another round.

Ho ho ho! No, it's not me going to that very special bar or the street corner in front of it, it's

CHRISTMAS
TNG Feature: "Star Trek: Generations"

There's a lot of missed potential in the movie, as well as plot holes one so big the 1701-D could through without any struggle, but some of its core themes were good - to the point this TNG flick is the most intellectually-driven of the four... and the 1701-D, which got the best possible demise due to the intent of its design, never looked better on the big screen, either for exterior or interiors, due to fantastic lighting (even if the intent was to hide how knackered seven year-old sets were, which is moot given how the odd bang and bump could be seen by season 3... at least for those pedantic and/or pretentious enough to look. Like me! And now, it's time to go barhopping. :guffaw: Or maybe not.)

What's left to be roasted on an open fire:

Hmmmm.... think I've got to go with "Persistence Of Vision." Before I loved "Seven saves the ship!", I first loved "Kes saves the ship!" This is also one of the most "committed to straight up spookiness" eps on the Halloween list, they do not back away from the creepy when they start explaining what's going on with this one.

Shedding light on the "Dark Page".

This was a great episode for Lwaxana. It explains so much of her behavior, particularly toward Deanna. A mother going through that kind of loss... I can't imagine a worse kind of pain. It totally shows why she is so exuberant and over the top and having that zest for life because she uses it to hide so much pain. And it really clinches why she was always overbearing with Deanna... it was done from a kind of love that couldn't stand to lose another child.

I actually started crying a bit when we got that reveal of Kestra. Majel and Marina completely sold it, and their bond was always genuine.

(Single man tears are not just for the Winchesters...)

I'm going to save Children of Mars. Mainly because its demonstrably better than the two VOY episodes remaining. It's still under spoiler warnings, but I'll say it was refreshing to have a trek story that was told almost entirely in visuals, with very little in the way of scripted dialogue.

HALLOWEEN
VOY, Season 6: "Alice"
THE DAY OF HONOR
VOY, Season 4: “Day Of Honor”

I might regret this, but I'm going to save "Alice." Is it a great episode? Nope! But the camp factor is through the roof, which goes a long way for me.

That leaves us with VOY, Season 4: “Day Of Honor.”

Wow, unexpected! I was sure it was going to be "Alice"!

I actually properly like "Day Of Honor", but only since a recent rewatch caused me to freshly appreciate it, I did not care for it until then.

And Voyager now ties Enterprise, with 5 wins each...

Thanks for playing everyone! Hope to see you on the next one, a new list going up later today: "The Most Disliked Crossover Appearance"

I was going to come charging in to save Day of Honor but never mind. I was distracted with both a faulty tumble dryer and washing machine. One I could cope with, so just meh. MEH! :D

I just looked over my old posts, and discovered that this was actually the third time I've saved "Magicks of Megas-Tu"! The others were "Visit to Earth's Past," and "Hallucination/Illusion." At this rate, I'm going to owe my old Religious Education teachers an apology, or at least an explanation....
