I'll save Dax.

It's not amazing, but I did like the look into Trill culture, as well as the episode being a trial. I also enjoyed the character of the female judge, whatever her name was. She was quite amusing.

Oh god, I love her. Anne Haney is the actress, and Fionnula Flanagan is also in this episode as the widow. It's a real feast of fantastic older-lady performers in this one!

 

[Farscape One]

I will save "Encounter at Farpoint". It is a nostalgia thing for me because that is the night I became a Trekkie and a scifi fan in general.

"Too Short A Season" just didn't work because of the actor. I think he was directed or written the wrong way because I've seen him in other things. It is the 'winner' here.

Weren't there rumours about Kirk being the admiral in Too Short a Season? Who knows if it would have been any better.

As it stands, it's a pretty solid stinker.

Sakonna, in an alternate timeline, Ann Haney and Fionnula Flanagan had their own Star Trek series.

When I looked over the list in the first post, I thought "All the TNG stuff here is iffy at best." I don't think that's because of it being TNG, and I'm sure DC only made whatever she was handed better, but early TNG was just a stinker overall. My thought on the first post was "Which TNG episode will 'win'?"

I almost watched "Too Short A Season" last night, but made the mistake of dialing up the "better" "The Battle" instead, which just bored me. I should have reminded myself I actually love "Too Short A Season"! In the usual so-bad-it's-good way. I love the weird performance from that guy, the crazy makeup, the moody lighting.

I also love how you can actually feel the production-tension around that ginormous wheelchair that is too large for the sets. I have been on those sets, where someone made an idiotic, obvious mistake in prep that has now made the shoot MASSIVELY more difficult than it needed to be and pointlessly added hours and hours and hours to the work day. I swear you can feel in the finished episode how pissed everyone is about it!

Yep, this is one of the few eps on the "winner" board I properly like (I also have positive feelings for "The Forsaken", "Day Of Honor", "An Obol For Charon", and "Children Of Mars". And maybe sometimes I'm OK with "Descent, Part II" and "Repression", depending on the mood I'm in...)

I suppose this D.C. Fontana list is quite a strong one overall... from it, I really only dislike "Charlie X", "Friday's Child", and "The Way To Eden."

With the last two, I knew we'd finally get a few more TOS and TNG eps on the winner board... since, except for the sole item of "Dax", they were the only series represented on either list.

"Too Short a Season" isn't that bad, but it looks like a TOS plot lost in TNG.
