The Most Disliked Episode of VOYAGER - Season 1...

Farscape One

Admiral

This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

I'll kick off the season by saving "CARETAKER".

This was a great pilot and a great way to start the series. A lot of fun to watch.

I don't love many of these -- except "State Of Flux." That's a super satisfying episode, the Seska reveal at the end is great.

I considered doing the first 3 seasons of the VOYAGER version of this game by production order, meaning the 4 episodes held over for season 2 would be in season 1, and the season 2 holdovers for season 3 back with season 2.

But I figured it might be easier to keep it in airdate order... though I may consider altering this in the future to see how different the game would be.

"Heroes and Demons" was the first great Doctor episode, and I remember being struck by the lushness of the setting.

Prime Factors, for being one of the few episodes where the Starfleet/Maquis make-up of the crew actually feels relevant.

"Jetrel" Man, do I wish they had done more with this angle on Neelix... more exploration of what it went to be a survivor of genocide would have been great.

Faces. I love the Vidiians and the main bad guy was a sick betch. Two B'Elannas are better than one also.

The Cloud; Voyager pulled the “space anomaly is really a life form” more times than I can count, but I’ll give this one credit for doing it first.

I'm equally torn between three episodes for different reasons... "PHAGE", "EYE OF THE NEEDLE", and "CATHEXIS".

So I'll do the only reasonable thing... go in production order. Which means I save "PHAGE". I loved the Vidiians, and it was a good Doctor episode in that it was the first time we truly see his skill and adaptability. Good showcase for Neelix, too.

I'll save Eye of the Needle. It my have been a little early in the series for a potential way of getting home, but this is a really nice example of the type of episode that VOY would do.

Learning Curve. Good Tuvok episode that dealt with the Maquis, a rarity after Season 1.

Time and Again; not very memorable, but still a little better than the others here.

I will preserve Ex Post Facto because a) it's a very unusual episode out of season 1, b)it introduced "Investigator Tuvok" for the first time, c)it had an interesting premise regarding Tom's sentence and punishment, and d)it has a great title.

EMANATIONS
CATHEXIS

Honestly it’s hard to pick, as both episodes have very similar strengths and flaws. However, I will give last place to Cathexis, as it has a problem that Eminations doesn’t - namely, the twist over Chakotay’s “ghost” being incredibly obvious.

Personally, I hate "Learning Curve" more than any other ep this season, but "Emanations" is a close-second.

"Cathexis" I'm OK with. It bores me, but I don't dislike it in an active way.

I just happened to watch "Ex Post Facto" the other week and that episode is RIDICULOUS. They really laid that preposterous would-be noir dialogue on thick! Someone should have passed the noir note to whoever was designing those bright, pleasant, airy sets.

And jesus christ, Berman Trek seriously needed to give it a rest with those jerky, doughey older male scientists with hot young wives.

Were there others?

We have a 'winner' for season 1, and it is "EMANATIONS".

If only I was able to get back to the thread, I would have prevented "CATHEXIS" from being the runner-up... I always loved the paranoid feel of it.

One thing I will say about this first season is that it's among the better inaugural ones of the franchise.

I will start season 2 shortly. Thank you all for voting.

I think CATHEXIS won but maybe I misunderstood.

I wonder where the 4 episodes they held over for Season 2 would've ended up. I originally saw those as part of Season 1 as that's the way they were shown for me.
