The MOST Disliked Episode of TNG - Season Three...

Farscape One

Admiral

This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very curious to see the results.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, wait six hours and leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

I will start by saving an obvious choice... "The Best of Both Worlds". Possibly the most perfect cliffhanger ever in the franchise, I still remember how I felt as a kid first watching it. That summer was just gut wrenching because I had to know what happened. This would become the gold standard that all other cliffhangers would be judged on.

Thank you, Michael Piller.

I will say this... season 3 is, generally speaking, the transition season. More than any other season besides 7, I am curious to see how this poll turns out.

Me too. This might be the season with the greatest number of episodes I like equally, if that makes sense. If I were to give all the episodes a numerical 1-10 score, season 3 has a ton that would all get the exact same ranking.

BUT! I do clearly love Yesterday's Enterprise, even more than BOBW, the two clear stars of the season. Yesterday's Enterprise is probably my favorite TNG ep of the series, I've seen it a million times and I never get tired of it. So I'll save that...

(For the Hall of Failures - the 2011 loser was Shades of Gray)

Ah, season 3, the best year of TNG. I'll save The Defector on the strength of its story and guest star. One of my favorites of the whole series.

It would only be logical of me to save Sarek. A very moving story, made even better by tour de force performances from Patrick Stewart and Mark Lenard.

I'm saving Booby Trap, seeing them scramble and fail to get out was fun, I liked Leah and how she worked with Geordie. One of the most memorable episodes for me.

Love the entire crew's attitude toward Q in this episode.

Saving Who Watches the Watchers. Easy choice, even though there are some other gems left.
What can I say? It's just a good episode, good dialogue, ethical considerations at the forefront rather than space pew-pew, contrast between superstition and knowledge, a faillible Federation that makes mistakes (but strives to minimise the damage, of course),...
It's not flawless, but still one of my favourite of the whole show.

@OP: shouldn't these be titled "least liked" instead of "most disliked"? The methodology doesn't really select the most disliked items on the list, just the ones nobody liked enough to save.

I am saving "The Offspring". An extremely touching episode, and an excellent performance by Brent Spiner, as always. Plus, a superb first outing for Frakes as a director, who I find to be one of the best directors the franchise used. He was able to get some wonderful performances from actors on his episodes, and helped pave the way for other STAR TREK actors to direct... some who ended up being just as great, like LeVar Burton, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Roxann Dawson. So in that context, also an important episode.

I made it "MOST Disliked" because I wanted to make sure there was no confusion with the other polls recently. Also, it seems to me if something is not liked enough to be saved, wouldn't that by definition be most disliked enough by people?

Hollow Pursuits is saved for being possibly the funniest episode of all Star Trek.

Tin Man

Excellent soundtrack, fascinating storyline where the only major nitpick may as well be rolled with (how Betazoids can sense other minds across such huge distances), but it's definitely original - and cinematic.

The Survivors. An interesting mystery, and I love Picard's conclusion that there is nothing he can do to punish Kevin Uxbridge for his crime.

"Sins of the Father" is heroically saved. Loved Tony Todd and his introduction to the audience. Delving into Klingon politics and how some Klingon houses were too big to fail and having a main character "fall on the sword" really added a lot of dimension to Worf and the Klingons in general.

After not thinking of it much in the past, I recently rediscovered "Captain's Holiday" and realized it's a lot of fun. The setup alone is such a strong example of what makes TNG great... they spend a full ten minutes on the ship before Picard even beams down to Risa! There's something so confident about these scenes, a sequence where the other characters are just working on Picard and trying to get him to take a vacation -- there's really no plot, they are just trusting in the cast/character chemistry to make it sing, and it absolutely does. I always thought it's that chemistry that made TNG special, and this is a great showcase for it.
