The Most Disliked Episode of TNG - Season 7...

Farscape One

Admiral
Admiral
This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

2011 - "Shades Of Gray"
2018 - "The Outrageous Okona"
2019 - "Code of Honor"

I will start by saving "Masks". Honestly, this episode does NOT deserve the hate it seems to get. I have always defended this episode and I always will. I love this one.

It has great performances by Brent Spiner, a clever plot using mythology, utilizes Picard's archaeology knowledge, and I love the idea of this super advanced race that still follows a more primitive theology. It's not what you would expect.

This has always been a fun episode for me, and a treat to watch. Joe Menosky did a great job here, and it was well directed by Robert Wiemer, who seemed to get the more creepy toned episodes. (He directed "Violations" and "Schisms".)

Removing All Good Things. I'd rather spend my turn on something more at risk, but by the rules, I must eliminate my favorite episode remaining.

Who doesn't love it when Picard, Pressman, and Riker have their little hate triangle going on? The Pegasus is eliminated.

I think I gotta save Lower Decks. Probably not a controversial choice but it is an excellent episode that ties into the larger Bajoran/Cardassian conflict really well, explores a different dimension of life on the Enterprise, and does a nice job of fleshing out a new group of characters in just one episode. The ending is a gut punch and is absolutely earned. Really good stuff.

I think "Parallels" is a wildly good episode. The premise is delightful & exciting. It's great to see Worf in this kind of sci-fi-anomaly story, rather than once again dealing with Klingons, honor, etc. Worf & Parallel Troi is so romantic, you see how they deluded themselves into thinking it was actually a good idea for the main series narrative. Alexander is wisely left out. The detail work on the parallel timelines is perfectly done. A winner on every level.

I care less for season 7 than I do season 6. I still haven't watched Masks or Sub Rosa. I always enjoyed Firstborn. Good father-son dynamics between Worf, young Alexander, and old Alexander. Time travel, a faked murder attempt, and an appearance of Lursa and Betor and Quark.

I love how Picard gets jilted by Ro Laren at the end of Preemptive Strike.

Well at this point "Gambit, Part I" is the best bet. It's original and well-paced, plus it gets your interest increasing.

A good ending, but another Starfleet career wasted by The Maquis, who were quickly killed off by The Dominion.

Two awesome guest stars in Gambit: Richard Lynch and Robin Curtis.

I really like Phantasms. It's a logical follow-up to Data getting dreams in S6, and I love the nightmares that he experiences. Cake Troi is one of those delightfully bizarre images that I never forget.

To think that Data's unconscious is wired to detect things that are out of reach of his conscious mind!

Phantasms has two of my favorite B stories, which enhance this episode a lot for me. It was nice to see the Admiral from A Measure Of Man again.

I am saving "Dark Page". It explains a LOT about how Lwaxana is, particularly regarding Deanna. Losing so much of your family, it's a lot like Neelix's background. I always wondered if they patterned Neelix after Lwaxana.

Attached, for at least doing something with the romantic tension between Crusher and Picard, even if they could have gone a lot further.
