The Most Disliked Episode of SNW, 2023 Edition - Season 1...

Farscape One

Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

This was a fantastic season! Especially for a first season... SNW was firing on all cylinders from the jump. I'm genuinely spoiled for choices on what to choose first.

There is one episode that I feel does not get the love it deserves... so I am making it my first save.

"The Elysian Kingdom" is such a fun episode. Everything about this just brought a smile to my face. And then the ending happened, and my smile became a frown.

This was such a beautiful, bittersweet ending. Dr. M'Benga's daughter will live, but he won't be able to see her again. I am not ashamed to say that I was crying multiple single man tears at this... both in joy and sorrow.

I love M'Benga's character, and his story this season with her was so heartbreaking... you can't help but truly feel for that man. So I maje this my first save... a well deserved one.

Strange New Worlds. It launches the series out of the gates awesomely, and is one of the best Trek episodes period, IMO. Pike's inspiring speech ranks up with Picard's best efforts.

"Children of the Comet"

"Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" just about broke me, even though I pegged it early on as a variation on "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," and so knew where it was going. A powerful story, powerfully played. I was bleeding for Pike by the end.

I was going to pick that next. I cry several single man tears whenever I watch it.

Saving "All Those Who Wander".

I really love the horror vibe. And the Gorn really feel like a genuine threat.

I miss Hemmer, though...

Saving "A Quality of Mercy." Despite the time travel shenanigans, I did like the recognition of consequences for Pike's choice. It carries more weight adds to Mount's wonderful ponderous presence as Pike.

"Ghosts Of Illyria" is my most rewatched of season one. Great use of the whole cast (minus Ortegas). Great production work on the planet. Strong character work and a classic Trek story told in a nicely updated way.

Though to complain for a minute, I wish streaming Trek would get over it's weird impulse to pull in all sorts of tie-in novel trivia, even when it doesn't track well with actual on-screen canon.

Children of the Comet was a personal highlight from the first season and it is an easy save.

One of the best things SWN does is take a character from TOS that is essentially a blank slate and make them much more rounded.

"Spock Amok"
"The Serene Squall"

Momento Mori was an amazing battle episode: tense, brutal, and full of imaginative solutions. It's a tribute to this show's overall awesomeness that it's still on this list. Well, no more.

"Spock Amok"
"The Serene Squall"

EDIT: I was trying to add in a quote but someone else posted, that's why my post is out of order.

Saving "Spock Amok".

It was not only great fun, but a good character piece. I enjoy it more than "The Serene Squall"... it's not a bad episode, just the weakest of the season.

Which makes "The Serene Squall" the first winner of season 1.

I will start season 2 shortly. Hope to see everyone there.

Thank you all for playing.

As someone whose business is protecting kids from harm, I agree. It took me a couple of days to recover from that one.

Though this wasn't exactly the ones who wall away from Omelas... it was about the ones who were trying to burn the abomination to the :censored:-ing ground.

Yes -- and in brutal irony, the very children they tried to save were used against them. :weep:

As a parent, I couldn't stop thinking how the child's father must feel. And then there's Pike, too good a person to guess what kind of bastardy these people were capable of.
