The Most Disliked Episode of ENT, Season 4 - 2025 Edition...

Farscape One

Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

Season 4... many would call this the series' best season, and I fully agree. It kept the tradition alive of the 4th season of a STAR TREK series being that show at their best. A fantastic season that saw multiple trilogies, which was necessary for budgetary reasons but ended up being a great shot in the arm and was an excellent storytelling method. They got to expand on some meaty stories without them overstaying their welcome. (DISCO and PICARD could have learned from this.) A damn shame this was the last season. It's really hard to pick a first save because so many episodes this season were great.

My first save is "IN A MIRROR, DARKLY".

It was fun to see the Mirror Universe here with absolutely NO intercutting to our universe. We have a Constitution class ship back on screen. We have a Tholian web making a return. And we got to see Forrest one last time... and he is an honorable man in any universe. He sacrificed himself to give his crew a fighting chance to live. Plus, you can tell everyone was enjoying themselves a LOT here.

But my favorite thing? They got rid of that damned theme song and replaced it! I LOVED it!

(So many reasons to save this one, and the theme replacement ALONE would have done it for me.)

Then I'll save the other half for pretty much the same reasons - plus Empress Hoshi and consort Mayweather!

I like S4 but I find it a little overrated. I hate the Klingon appearance story, the finale, Bound, most of the Augment arc, and the terrible TCW conclusion.

That said I love the Vulcan story, so my first save is The Forge. I thought it was pretty epic in scope, and I loved how it comes to explain ENT Vulcans.

Saving "UNITED".

One of the best of the series, this really put to the forefront the Enterprise's role in bringing everyone together.

And that pullback shot of the conference room with Archer, Shran, etc. showing the Enterprise in formation with everyone? One of the best shots of the series. I can save this episode on that shot alone, never mind all the other great things about it.

Oh, go on then, I'll save "Awakening" as I also love the Vulcan trilogy - especially Trip and Soval working together. And this exchange:
Trip: "Mind if I ask you something? Why are you doing this? I never got the impression that you cared that much about Humans. Seems like… you were always finding something new to complain about."
Soval: "I lived on Earth for more than 30 years, Commander. In that time I developed an affinity for your world and its people."
Trip: "You did a pretty good job of hiding it."
Soval: "Thank you."

Good episode. Shran is always a delight. And we can thank this episode for giving us Hemmer on SNW!

STOP! Hemmer Time!

Stands to reason I save Babel One as I'm quite fond of the Romulan/Aenar arc and the lovely early origins of the Federation.

I'm saving "Observer Effect" because I think it's a well done version of the "crew taken over by non-physical entities" thing that Trek likes. All the body swapping keeps things fresh, and the cast do a great job of selling it. I especially like T'Pol's evident concern for Trip and Archer recognising it, letting her know he'll inform her if Trip regains consciousness.

Saving "AFFLICTION".

I actually liked how ENT was tackling explaining the difference in Klingons' appearance from TOS and later. Bonus points for it being a combination of Bashir and O'Brien's theories.

Also, it was good to give Reed some more stuff.

Man do I find it an incredible challenge to say anything positive about Enterprise, even this season.

But I do think the Augments trilogy is one of the best things this show ever did, and certainly my favorite of all the multi-part stories this season, so I'll start picking away with that one.

I do love everything with the slave market in "Borderland." That was so well done.

Saving "THE AUGMENTS".

Brent Spiner was a delight as Arik Soong. And his pleas with Malik to think of the others who survived, and his distraught over their deaths... you really felt his pain. It was like a father losing his children.

Storm Front may not be the most exciting 2-parter and a little bit of an unneccessary extension on season 3's damaged ship and crew arc but it does finally give us everyone making it home in the end.
