The Most Disliked Episode of DISCO, Season 1 - 2025 Edition...

Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

Hall of Champions (or Failures?)
2021 - "The Red Angel"
2023 - "The Red Angel"
2025 -

Season One

"The Vulcan Hello"
"Battle at the Binary Stars"
"Context Is for Kings"
"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Choose Your Pain"
"Lethe"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Into the Forest I Go"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"
"Will You Take My Hand?"

Now we are at the beginning of the current era of the franchise. While I credit it for being the beginning of STAR TREK coming back to tv, I just didn't like this series much. It currently stands as the worst series in the franchise for me. TAS was actually a better series. The season arcs just didn't work, I couldn't take the Starfleet officers seriously as professionals, too many shrink sessions between the characters, and more. (Though DISCO did look fantastic... the effects were certainly nothing that can be complained about. Might be the best looking series in the franchise. A lot of money was clearly thrown into that part of the series... too bad they couldn't throw some of that money into hiring better writers.)

But even the worst series has a couple of decent episodes, hard as it is to find. And for season 1, there's only one good episode.

"Lethe"... it was a well done episode, and it actually explains WHY there was such a rift between Spock and Sarek. This episode is the ONLY justification for making Burnham his adopted sister. It was otherwise useless for the entire series... she was just made that way because the producers felt they needed her to be connected to an iconic character in the franchise to make us care about her. This just telegraphs to the audience they don't feel confident enough in her or the series to be able to stand on its own.

So "Lethe" is saved.

The Vulcan Hello was a pretty good start to the show.

Quite liked tthe dea of the main character being a lower ranked person.

Battle at the Binary Stars"
"Context Is for Kings"
"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Choose Your Pain"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"

"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"
"Will You Take My Hand?"

"Battle At The Binary Stars" I was pretty thrilled by this two-part opening at the time. A boldly different way to start a Trek series.

"Context Is for Kings"
"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Choose Your Pain"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Into the Forest I Go"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"
"Will You Take My Hand?"

Saving "Choose Your Pain".

I like Lorca, and Rainn Wilson's take on Harry Mudd made sense.

"Context Is for Kings"
"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Into the Forest I Go"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"
"Will You Take My Hand?"

I guess I'll save the finale in what is probably one of the worst seasons of Star Trek that I'm not compelled to completely disregard. I love Empress Georgiou and she gets a lot of good scenes here and the arrival of the Enterprise would herald in a great new era with the Pike season and then SNW.

"Context Is for Kings"
"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Into the Forest I Go"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"

The incredible darkness of "Context Is For Kings" is so striking given where the show actually went.

I like the character intro's in this one.

"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Into the Forest I Go"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"

Into the Forest I Go was a wonderful mid-season finale.

It just felt like an epic.

"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
"The War Without, the War Within"

The penultimate episode gets a vote from me much for the same reasons as the finale, Mirror Georgiou was the brightest spot of the season and the Archer reference was quite nice.

"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"

Saving "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum".

Because of Saru. The best character of the entire series, and it's not even close.

"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"

Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad is hilarious and an easy next save.

Lorca dying over and over again always gets me!

The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"

The stock of that MU arc has really fallen over the years, I guess!

I wish I could save "Despite Yourself." I like so much about it. But it has that Culber death...

So instead I'll save "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not For The Lamb's Cry." It's more fun to watch than any of the MU stuff because there's a lot of hilarious stupidity in it.

"Despite Yourself"
"The Wolf Inside"
"Vaulting Ambition"
"What's Past is Prologue"
