The Most Disliked Episode of DISCO, 2023 Edition - Season 4...

Welcome to our bi-yearly 'Most Disliked Episode' games! Now that the 'Least Disliked Episode' games hosted by BlueStuff (who inspired me to create these games, so thank you very much for paving the way) have concluded, we can begin the opposite side of that coin.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

Season Four... there are elements that are good, but SO MUCH of the middle just meanders. Truthfully, this season could have done its arc in 7 episodes, maybe even 6. Should have done 2 arcs this season... almost certainly would have flowed better. It's still a decent season, and the ONLY one where they actually mostly stick the landing. (Unfortunately, it broke the streak of shows in the franchise whose 4th season is them at their best.)

Having said all that, my first save is "Species Ten-C". I love that they were just trying to figure out the language of that species. Really great one this season.

This was an incredible season I thought. Things mostly clicked in season 3, but here they leveled up even more, and stuck the landing for the first time.

They never should have taken this long to make Burnham captain. The earlier seasons were plagued with so many unnecessary problems as a result of having the always-right character in a subordinate role.

I'll save "Kobayashi Maru", this season felt like something different right out of the box. It was a more promising start than any other we'd had.

And the debut of the AR wall on Disco was immediately impressive.

[Seven of Five]

S4 is my favourie season, though the story was in stasis for a few episodes, and it just should have been 8 or 10 episodes even. Species 10-C was an intriguing, original idea.

My fave has already been saved, so I will go with the awesome mid-season finale, ...But to Connect.

I just really appreciated that it felt like a true Star Trek story at heart, with diplomacy to win the day long-term. Also, Zora is a fascinating character.

"All Is Possible" was an excellent exit for Tilly. This episode was also great for Adira and Saru.

It was good for Burnham as well, but it was great to have her take a back seat for this one episode. One of Disco's main failures is not allowing enough room for the ensemble to shine, which is one of the worst missteps a Trek show can make (that's exactly what has always dragged down VOY, ENT, and especially TOS for me)

Choose to Live is next. I was a fan of Burnham's mother, with Sonja Sohn bringing such gravitas whatever the material.

To get this game gling again, I'm going to save "Anomaly".

It was still very early in the season, and the mystery was still good. (Despite the fact the second episode of ENT's third season was titled "ANOMALY" also. The writers couldn't find a synonym for it, or at least call this one "The Anomaly"?)

While I had to look up the episode description to jog my memory, I remembered that Rubicon was a pretty tense episode of DIS. Burham has to be the one to stop Booker and Tarka from destroying the DMA, going against Starfleet's principles

It's the only left other than "The Galactic Barrier" that I can even somewhat remember, and I liked it slightly more than "The Galactic Barrier".

"Stormy Weather" I nearly saved a few times already. Love this one. Great use of Zora and Gray.

I really like the other two as well, but "All In" is a little obvious in its "seedy underworld" tropes, and "The Galactic Barrier" is dragged down by the Book/Tarka segments, though the rest of the episode is fantastic.

I really hope we get some good Gray material in the final season, though it seems entirely possible we won't see or hear from him at all.

I'll make The Galactic Barrier the winner then. Whilst it had interesting moments, the episode is just spinning its wheels and is the biggest example of the season that should have been shorter.
