The Most Disliked Episode of DIS, Final Round: 2021 Edition...

Farscape One

Admiral
Admiral
Season 1: "The War Without, the War Within"
Runner-up: "Battle at the Binary Stars"

Season 2: "The Red Angel"
Runner-up: "Perpetual Infinity"

Season 3: "The Sanctuary"
Runner-up: "There Is a Tide..."

So now it is time for the final part.

*RULES*

Give what you consider to be the best/your most favorite episode ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When an episode reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. And enjoy! :bolian:

I have to say, this Finals round is pretty bad.

But I can't have a Frakes directed episode end up as a loser, so I am torn between either season 3 episode. I'll pick "There Is a Tide...", as it is a bit more... wait for it... engaging.

I agree. The Emerald Chain wasn't the best antagonist, but the episode was decent enough in action terms. It could have been more interesting if Osyraa's negotiations with Vanvr had been genuine.

There is a tide... and it strongly favors the titular episode. Pretty good episode. I think the Vance/Osyraa scenes were the highlight, alongside Jake Weber chewing plenty of scenery as Zareh.

For me, the season 3 episodes are vastly superior to the others. The show has simply figured itself out more at this point. I'll save "There Is A Tide" (those Vance/Osyraa scenes are a highlight -- THAT could have been the conflict of the season right there) and give my next round point to "The Sanctuary."

My final vote goes to "The Sanctuary", because Frakes directed it, and none of his episodes deserves to take the winning title of this game.

(The reason I am calling this my final vote is because I really don't have any way to distinguish the season 2 ones, and both season 1 ones just don't offer any good points for me to remember. If we get too stuck on looking for a vote later, I'll vote for something. Otherwise, I'm just going to sit back and watch the rest of this one unfold.)

As convincing an argument as I have ever heard. +1 for "The Sanctuary".

"The Sanctuary" is way too much fun. +1, and consider it saved.

I'll do "Battle At The Binary Stars" next. The Klingon material is clunky as hell, but overall I like this one. It was a cool way to introduce the series and SMG's performance is fantastic right out of the box.

Yeah, I really don't want to see "Battle at the Binary Stars" go down here! It's a solid episode. I don't love the two-part pilot, but the second part is particularly solid.

Alfalfa another vote for Battle at the Binary Stars.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like anything that has Michelle Yeoh in it, and I wish they would finally get around to doing the Section 31 series with her as the lead. :)

Battle at the Binary Stars is saved. It's a good introduction to the show, mostly.

As much of a botch the Red Angel arc was in its end, I want to vote for Perpetual Infinite. It worked in action terms, if not on logical ones. I also think Sonja Sohn is great as Burnham's mother, so getting to see Burnham's childhood was interesting.

I guess I can also go with "Perpetual Infinity"? These are certainly my personal three worst of the series, each is trash with nothing to enjoy in it, I find it nearly impossible to imagine any justification for saving any of them (clearly I'm not the only one!)

It is true that Sonja Sohn is good, though the terrible dialogue in this ep cannot be overcome. The production team does a nice job of staging the action of the climax. That's all I got!

Random number generator says "3". So that's another one for "Perpetual Infinity". Sorry, I'm just not able to choose voluntarily between these three episodes. They're all rubbish.

Since there have been no votes for over 48 hours, I am declaring "Perpetual Infinity" saved. There clearly was no competition in terms of vote numbers.

Here are the remaining episodes left to vote on...

The War Without, the War Within" - 0
"The Red Angel" - 0

I guess I'll give my last point to "The Red Angel." It has stray moments between Spock & Burnham I enjoy.

I can't think of one thing I like about TWWTWW..

I didn't fully understand the rules (about what constitutes "a round") at first, or I'd have given "The War Without . . ." a point as soon as "Perpetual Infinity" was saved. Simultaneous root canal work and hemorrhoid surgery would be more pleasant than re-watching the more gruesome parts of "The Red Angel" (especially the eye-scream that is both more gruesome and more gratuitous than either Never Say Never Again [a movie I watched in a theatre, and promptly said "never again" about] or the beginning of "Stardust City Rag") and "The War Without . . ." is neither root canal work nor hemorrhoid surgery.

With the season eliminations, each episode only needs a single person to save it, and there must be at least two other posters who go before you can save another episode.

With the Finals, such as this one, it takes 4 votes to save an episode. You can only vote once per round. A round is however long it takes for a single episode to reach 4 votes.

For example, when three episodes are left, and they each have 3 votes but one gets a 4th vote, it is saved and eliminated. The other two revert back to 0, and voting begins again, making it a new round.

In a case like last round, where no one votes for 48 hours, whichever episode has the most votes gets saved automatically. (In the case of a tie, whichever one reaches that tied count first is the one that gets saved.)

Going by what you were saying, it wouldn't have mattered if you voted for that episode, since "Perpetual Infinity" already had 3 votes. It would have required 3 MORE votes in addition to yours for "The War Within, the War Without" to be saved... and this is presuming no one else votes for "Perpetual Infinity".

I hope I was able to clarify. :)

Uh, not "as soon as 'Perpetual Infinity' hit three votes" (i.e., right after I saw post #14), but "as soon as 'Perpetual Infinity' was saved (i.e., right after I saw post 15).

Now, it's a matter of how many people wish they could un-see the eye-scream in "The Red Angel," vs. how many people actively hate "The War Within . . . ."

I just love the Christmas madness. I've been a bit diverted away from the site, which is usually my refuge from all of the madness :D

So after much thinking, I feel like season one ended with such a thud, I think that The War Without, the War Within is worse than The Red Angel.
