Game The Most Disliked David Livingston Directed Episode

I would like to "save" VOY Season 5: "In The Flesh". Its the one episode i probably watched the most from VOY. One could emphasize that it deals with the worthiness & power of trust. I like the (absurd/comedic) story and the joy every actor is obviously having.

Hi @gtop, and welcome :)

I'm going to save DS9 "Change of Heart" - a wonderful look at Dax's and Worf's relationship, and the sacrifice made to sustain it. He'd probably strike me down for saying so, but Worf is so adorable (in this episode, as well as a few others)!

Ha! Juuuust about to hit post on this, and @Cyfa beat me to it...

"I think I'll next save "Change Of Heart." I do think this is one of those underappreciated great episodes, and I'm particularly inspired to save it now because it masterfully manipulates tone, which is a directing feat more than anything else. That heavy dark A story with the silly B story that terminates mid-episode -- pulling that off is tricky."

Nice, ominous cliffhanger too. I’m a little sad the second part was a bit of a talky disappointment in comparison.

The plight of the Trek fan. I realized at some point I was constantly rewatching Part I's, and I only move on to Part II a fraction of the time...

In that spirit I'll instead now save "The Maquis, Part I", one of those excellent first installments (quite a few Part I's are on this list). I love the way it starts and build's tension, the explosion of the Cardassian ship and the abduction of Dukat. The cliffhanger is also peculiarly satisfying, given how obvious it is, but it really lands every time!

I have just rewatched "Change of Heart" and it is better than I remember! Dax and Worf are so utterly believeable - I love all the real life stuff they talk about, their expressions, their routines, how much they know each other (Worf proving that Dax is set in her ways is priceless!) - just perfect. And I'd forgotten the B-story: O'Brien's quest to beat Quark at Tongo by roping in Bashir - only to fail. O'Brien and Bashir form another perfect relationship (and Bashir is VERY handsome in his tux - well, and in his uniform, too :adore:).

Welcome aboard, gtop! It's a fun place to be, and you picked a great time to jump in!

"YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED" to stay in this website... and the episode to be taken off this list.

With the big 6-part Dominion arc right before... 7-part if you count the season 5 finale, which a lot of us do... this episode was the perfect diversion. Plus, it was a celebration, not just for the characters with their hard won victory and the wedding but for the audience, too.

And come on... who doesn't like Nog's dance moves?

DS9’s “Crossover” was their first and best foray into the Mirror Universe and a second season highlight. Nana Visitor steals the show as the deliciously camp and utterly narcissistic Intendant. Love the episode’s tense, twisted atmosphere and it’s visually a triumph too, with a great sense of pace, courtesy in no small measure of Livingston’s directing.

"Strange New World" achieved something astounding, which I would have thought truly impossible at this point of Star Trek history: it shot the Star Trek Caves in an interesting way, and I was not bored looking at it.

I also think "Strange New World" successfully pulled off the gimmick "The Naked Now" so infamously failed at -- using "everyone's personalities have been altered!" as the plot for one of the very first episodes, before we really know what anyone's personalities are. Whereas "Naked" just buried us in random horny weirdness, SNW connects everything much better to who the characters are normally... it's still a story about Trip & T'Pol, albeit heightened, rather than a story about a bunch of random drunks.

With the big 6-part Dominion arc right before... 7-part if you count the season 5 finale, which a lot of us do... this episode was the perfect diversion. Plus, it was a celebration, not just for the characters with their hard won victory and the wedding but for the audience, too.

I just count it as a 9-episode arc, "In The Cards" through "Cordially"

VOY's Author, Author is a little derivative of Measure of a Man, but there is so much going on that it is one of my favourites of the final season. Seeing the Doctor's take on the crew in his holo-novel is funny enough, but then as soon as Tom gets involved, hilarity ensues.

Eliminating Deadlock. A good action and sci-fi story with a lot of twists and shocks. I just wish Voyager had more continuity so we could have the ship be damaged for at least a few more episodes.

I want to continue and will save "Future's end - part one".

I am not that fond of the story with timetravel involved. But i found it intereresting and again fun to watch the crew acting on late90ies USA. Tom and Tuvok interacting is maybe always with potential to comedic moments. In this episode the two of them get accompanied by a clever and attractive female earthling of the late 20th century. Her new friends (Tom & Tuvok) of course have to "ship around" some questions after she sees phaser fire the first time in her life.

Not to forget the docs mobile emitter becomes indroduced and partly explainend in this episode.

A hearty welcome to the board, dtop!

My next save is "THE NAGUS". And it's not even for the Quark story, which was a lot of fun.

It's the Jake story. He and Nog are really good friends, and it was fantastic watching Sisko watching Jake teaching Nog to read. Hell, I was proud of that kid. And that final scene when he just hugs and gives Jake a kiss and says, "Now go be with your friend." You can't script the bond and affection you clearly saw there. Ben Sisko is not just a great leader, but a superb dad. This is why he's my favorite captain.

It's largely superficial and I didn't care for using WW2 as a plot crutch (no other wars exist, which could double as a bonus history lesson too), and just how did they take over the ship*...

VOY Season 4: "The Killing Game, Part I"

But it's a downright creepy concept in that this crew of 150 or whatever would be forced to fight simulated battles, near to death, then patched together again just to do it all over again.

* I'd hope it'd be done more convincingly than the Ferengi had in "Rascals" :guffaw:

It's only logical to save "Kir'Shara," the conclusion of Enterprise's excellent Vulcan arc. A suspenseful plot, with good work by a range of characters from Archer and T'Pol to Shran and Soval. A nice expansion of Trek lore, too, as well as the redemption of ENT's mostly-unlikeable Vulcans. And that final twist -- oh my!

Saving United. I think that the direction balances out the different storylines--Enterprise, Romulus, the holo-ship--very effectively, using new sets, and creating tension while setting up the heroic arrival of the pre-Federation fleet.

The Hirogen are my favorite adversaries on VOY and the scene when Tuvok and Seven are captured by them is fantastic; I also like the exchange between the two of them when they are on the shuttle directly before they get captured.
And also this:
ALPHA: I'm not concerned. Lower the harness. A long, coiled intestine. An interesting trophy.
SEVEN: What possible use could you make of my intestines?
ALPHA: Unusual relics are prized. Yours will make me envied by men and pursued by women.
SEVEN: You are a crude species. Only your size makes you formidable.

"11:59" I'm a maniac for any sort of Christmas episode, so this is crack to me. And I think it's an impressive directing accomplishment as well, as most of the ep is in new locations with new characters. I love the look of everything in that Indiana town.

Though, just realized Shannon was wrong to support the "construction" of the Millennium Gate, since it's another enslaved alien jellyfish. Millennium Gate:

Again its me to eliminate the possibility that an episode which i possibly like very much, gets marked as "least liked episode ..."

Thats furthermore the case and now i eliminate the possibility, that 'ENT Season 3 - Proving Ground' gets in which sense whatsoever marked as a least 'liked episode' :) I think, there are some reasons to claim this episode as among the very better of season 3. I like how one can see a friendship between Archer and Shran forming, despite all circumstances. As many Trek episodes I like, i find it has its comedic moments. Maybe Archers fist into Shrans face at the end ist one such moment.

That is not the only case of violence between Archer and Shran. Whats interesting for me here is, that for Archer there was another important friendship, which formed after a fight (with then Captain Robinson).

The scene i like very much (because it shows a as well the beginning of deeper respect/trust/friendship) is at the very end of the epsisode when archer asks T'Pol if she wants to join him for a drink. He has an andorian ale to spare :)

"NOTHING HUMAN" is my next save.

Great moral dilemma, and great discussions by all. And a unique alien, to boot. A good farewell writing credit by Jeri Taylor... this was her last one for the franchise.

(By the way, little known fact... this was technically the 100th episode, since "CARETAKER" is really two episodes, going by production code. "TIMELESS" was directed right after this, so the confusion is understandable, given how that episode was pimped out... though I think that was entirely a network decision, as TNG and DS9 had their 100th episode be according to production code with "Redemption" and "THE SHIP", respectively. TNG's was also the 4th season finale, so it wasn't marketed as the 100th due to that, but DS9's definitely was. Not a coincidence both were syndication and not a flagship show for a fledgling network.)

(In other words... David Livingston directed the 100th episode.)
