It took me awhile to appreciate this episodes charms, but it's probably the only episode of Star Trek to ever keep me laughing from start to finish. The comic chemistry in this one is so successful, once I finally clicked into it. A new addition to my collection of DS9 favs.

And once again the films are safe, as I'm grabbing the chance to save The Voyage Home. My second-favorite Trek film of all time, TVH connected with fans and casual viewers alike, gave all of the "Big Seven" moments in the sun and brought back some of my favorite recurring characters, and harked back to the TV series's roots by combining the fun with a message. Oh yeah -- and it was also funny as hell!

Mary Kay Adams is great as Grilka, and I love the way the episode fleshes out certain aspects of Klingon society, like the intricacies of Klingon inheritance law. We also get to see how Quark's financial prowess and scheming can sometimes be an asset rather than a character flaw.

In the Cards is another very funny episode. I love how the comical part of the story gets the focus, whilst the more serious slide towards war, is the B-plot.

It's also a lovely story about a son trying to do something nice for his father.

Alice in Wonderland, princesses, showgirls, samarai, sweethearts, and one of the less-menacing baddies from Kirk's past -- "Shore Leave" had it all. Along with a light-hearted warmth that carried us even through moments that would otherwise have been dark, plus Shatner's increasingly comical frustration, plus my man De Kelley simply maxing out on charm.

I was thinking of removing Royale only to realize it's not in the game, why not?

I went back and fourth on that one. My initial thought was that it belonged, but upon reflection it started to feel more like a creepy episode with occasional comic moments, rather than a properly comic/light-hearted episode itself. This, "Bliss", and (@Farscape One's suggestion) "This Side Of Paradise" were sort of all grouped in a tier in my mind (and I left those off as well) -- episodes that are ultimately about creepy, unsettling threats, but that manifest in comic ways for big chunks of the episode.

Also, working on a "Trek Noir" list for a future game, and it seemed like "The Royale" probably fits on that, and I was thinking "well, it can't be on The Dark AND The Light lists." But maybe "The Royale" is an ep that sits exactly at the nexus! Darkly light-hearted.

I don't think we need to add it to this round (we know we have enough "Royale" lovers around, myself included, that it would NEVER win), but since I was already on the fence and now it's been brought up, probably adding it to the master... if anyone else has any thoughts on if "Royale" is dark, light, or both, feel free to weigh in.

Meanwhile, I am saving "Fascination"! This episode is a delight, a bright, colorful party. It never fails to make me smile. The direction of Avery Brooks in this one is absolutely top-notch and possibly THE reason the episode is as successful as it is, and their attempts to invoke Shakesperean comedy are ACTUALLY SUCCESSFUL. You are engaging in a high-risk, potentially embarrassing move when you try to do "Midsummer Night's Dream" as an episode of your syndicated sci-fi adventure show, so I find it thrilling that it works so brilliantly! I just love this one.

The ferengi (not known for elaborate acts of bravery) are on a rescue mission to save Moogie and have a perfect team (a child, a moron, a failure, a psychopath and former liquidator Brunt!). I thought it was pure comedic gold till the last moment they gave back another vorta back to starfleet in return for the one they killed.

I love almost all the Ferengi episodes of DS9

So now I'm saving Bar Association. Rom stalwartly paving the way for the first successful Worker's Union in Ferengi History. Is it a wonder that he ended up becoming the Grand Nagus?
Plus wasn't that the beginning of the Rom/Leeta pairing? Another wonderful Star Trek couple!
And it was a important step in the development of the Ferengi culture from a cutthroat ultra-capitalist society to something that became much more in-line with the Federation by the end of DS9.(Not quite of course, but the way the Ferengi stand at the end of DS9 it's easy to imagine them joining the Federation in maybe 50 or 100 years time.

I'll go again with "Captain's Holiday." One of the thing I adore most about Berman Trek, and miss most from streaming Trek, is the wandering off into storytelling tangents. There are few better examples than this one. They spent nearly the first quarter of the episode just trying to get Picard to go on vacation before he even leaves! This one is a romp, silly and fun and as sexy as Trek was allowed to be, I really like it. (Thus far, Trek's only satisfying visit to Risa! They should have quit while they were ahead and never gone back)

"Captain's Holiday" is such a warm, humorous show, @Sakonna, I'm glad it got saved so early. The chemistry between Picard and Vash was almost intoxicating!
