First off, I've always loved the title. Second, it's a fantastic story that brings the Dominion back fron and center.

I will next save "The Maquis", another exciting level-up moment for DS9. The world building in this one is great, the station and surrounding area are getting such a rich sense of place. And of course there is the fun irony that the Maquis were invented for Voyager, but found their most compelling episodes on DS9.

Saving "Chain Of Command".

It was a good shakeup of the status quo, despite how brief it was. The scenes with Picard and Madred alone elevate what could have been a really boring torture episode.

Patrick Stewart was robbed... he should have gotten an Emmy for this episode. I think this might be his best performance on TNG... which is no small feat, considering how many excellent performances he did over the course of the show.

I'm saving The Vulcan Hello/Battle At The Binary Stars, I love Discovery and this episode felt epic, it was more than I had hoped for for Star Trek's return to tv. The episode made me fall in love with Michael, Saru and Georgiou and I was so disappointed when she died, that the episode and Michelle Yeah made me care about that character so much says a lot. I also loved the klingons, they felt truly alien and not just like angry humans, their ship which almost looked like a chapel was awesome.

The final goodbyes of Part 2 become so ludicrous, overwrought, and unearned it almost retroactively destroys the whole thing -- but I otherwise love "Terra Firma." It was such a missed opportunity in season 1 when we didn't really get many MU versions of our existing characters, and it was great to go back and play with that. After being skeptical of the Section 31 series from the moment it was announced, this two-parter got me excited and believing it would work (of course, if it ever gets out of development, it's now dragged on so long I'd be skeptical again). And the reveal of the Guardian may be Disco's single most thrilling moment.

After all these years, I still have a weak spot for DS9, Season 6: "Favor The Bold/Sacrifice Of Angels" .

It's not perfect, and the resolution might be a little weak - the writers having painted themselves into such a counter that the Deus ex Machina solution of the Prophets simply erasing (or displacing) the Dominion reinforcements was the only solution left, but it's still a great story, with a good build-up of tension and awesome battle sequence effects (for that era, at least). I'll never forget the first scene of part 2, moments before they enter the battle:

SISKO: Sisko to all ships. Cruiser and Galaxy wings, drop to half impulse. You too, Commander.
DAX: Half impulse.
GARAK: I feel sorry for the Klingons. They're going to miss a very interesting fight.
O'BRIEN: I have a feeling we're going to miss having them.
SISKO: Forget the Klingons. Our job is to get to Deep Space Nine and prevent the Dominion reinforcements from coming through the wormhole, and that's what we're going to do. Attack fighters, tactical pattern Theta. Concentrate your fire on the Cardassian ships, and then split off into squadrons and run like hell.
NOG: Why is he only targeting the Cardassian ships?
GARAK: He's hoping to get them to break formation and so they'll after the Federation fighters. He knows the Jem'Hadar will stand their ground, but the Cardassians just might get angry enough to take the bait.
NOG: Which would open a hole we can punch through.
GARAK: You're getting quite an education.
NOG: Attack fighters in Theta formation. Cruiser and Galaxy wings at half impulse.
SISKO: Sisko to attack fighters. Prepare to engage on my command.
CREWMAN [OC]: Aye, sir.
O'BRIEN: Cannon to the right of them, cannon to the left of them, cannon in front of them, volley'd and thunder'd.
BASHIR: Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well into the jaws of death. Into the mouth of hell rode the six hundred.
NOG: Whatever it is you two are reciting, I wish you'd stop.
O'BRIEN: Steady, Ensign. It's just a poem.
NOG: It's not the poem that's bothering me.
O'BRIEN: Stop worrying about those ships. Focus on your work. That's what I do.

Fair enough - I think a lot of the Voyager two part episodes had a much stronger first part than second part. In Workforce I like that Seven helps save the day WITHOUT using nanotech, Borg technology or Borg knowledge. But there are a lot of episodes still on the list that are better than Workforce so I'm not saving it.

I'm saving Equinox. I didn't want Voyager to be like Year of Hell, NuBSG, SGU but I did like seeing what could have happened to Voyager in Equinox. Janeway and Ransome both really care about their crews and the situation between them just escalates out of control. It needed a part three and there needed to be some longer term consequences of the episode, but still great to watch.

I'm a little surprised that Homefront/Paradise Lost is still on the list so let me just take care of that now. Star Trek has a lot of those old classic tropes that you either love or hate, and one of my favorites is the evil Admiral who comes onto the show, does some bad/stupid things, and is proven wrong. It was fun to see how an evil admiral would work somewhere other than on the protagonist ship, and as it turns out? They fuck shit right up.

Only on a list this strong could "Emissary" still be kicking around. There are many praiseworthy things about "Emissary", but to single out just one, it introduced one of the most important aliens in the entire Trekverse. I speak, of course, of Lurians. First appearance of Morn!

Also, it is the brilliant pilot of the best Trek series.

I'll put in a good word for "Past Tense". It was good look at a difficult subject, Avery Brooks was awesome as always, BC was an interesting character (in a vile sort of way), and a pretty decent fight scene at the end.
