The Mist (new tv series on Spike)

I'd be rooting for the monsters IF THERE WERE ANY.
I think it's the whole "The monsters were us all along" idea that were supposed to be buying into but they're going bonkers at the same rate as travel time in Westeros.

The whole rape plot device is strange since there doesn't seem to be much concern about Alex herself. Even though she's warmed to him I'm not even sure if she thinks the jock did it or not. I think a story about how other people react to something like that happening could be a valid story but it's odd when the victim is one of the main characters. I don't think this series is the one to do that story justice, it just seems to be a lurid plot device.

Speaking of lurid plot devices, I don't know what to think about Adrian, I guess in one sense it's goes against PC convention to have the gay outcast actually be the freak everyone thinks he is but it feels so sleazy. It's something to make a character so mentally unbalanced and troubled so unsympathetic. I think I was rooting for the dad.

Yeah, didn't they make a point that he doesen't really see himself as gay but just "different" or something (episode one was a long time ago...), so he is a little psycho off his meds. I don't really like the the implications here and I don't really like how it is is handled. And the passivity of Alex and the whole whodunit over developing her reaction to it is problematic. She`s playing ball with her maybe-rapist? (Implying it isn't all that bad, maybe it's ok if he's a nice guy?) I find the show highly entertaining but there is some iffy stuff in the writing.

Yeah. The mom said that society is nine meals away from anarchy, but it was more like nine minutes.

Apparently she believes him, although she wouldn't be the first person to cozy up to their rapist. But, like everything else in this show, it's not clear what the writers' intentions are, or if they even have intentions.

And yet he's no worse than some of the non-crazy people.

I think he said he loves the person, not the body, or something along those lines.

That's what I was hoping for. The reason "The Mist" is my favorite King tale is that it is basically an old-fashioned monster movie to the nth degree.

There's really got to be some kind of mind-altering drug in the mist. That many people would not go that crazy that quickly. :rommie:

I love Kevin's new teenage friend, who accidentally saved his life. "I've heard that letting people with a concussion lose consciousness is dangerous, but you looked like you needed the sleep." :rommie:

And what's the story with all the dead soldiers everywhere? And why are all the houses empty? You'd think most people would just hunker down and hide at home. It's supposedly a death sentence to have to go out into the mist, but all of the main characters seem to be pretty immune to it (Kevin's Evil Twin notwithstanding). And why did that guy-- who was at first so worried about Kevin and the kid, and about being found-- suddenly decide to blow himself up with a grenade? Drugs in the mist. Got to be.

Mrs Raven and the cop are indeed on the crazy train. And their two former followers are now wishing that had gotten off at the last stop-- as they lay at the bottom of the pit being eaten by rats. What will cop do when he finds out that his son is innocent? Kill Mrs Raven instead?

And the son doesn't stand up to hardship very well, asking to be killed after being locked up for a few hours. It looked like the mom almost believed his story for a second there, but reverted to being Clint Eastwood. She is going to be so embarrassed.

Soldier guy and junkie girl are now an item and want to go someplace green and peaceful with her stolen drug money-- but nobody has yet questioned how far the mist goes. Has the whole world succumbed to the Mist Apocalypse? Did it run out of steam (so to speak) after a few miles? Nobody has even wondered.

But it looks like Jonah is going to turn out to be the one responsible for the mist. The other soldier guy saluted him (after beating him up, strangling him into unconsciousness, and taping him to a chair-- isn't that insubordination?) and next week they're going up to Arrowhead. It would be funny if he turns out to be a mad scientist or something.

Is this supposed to be a limited series or has anyone heard word about a potential season two? I don't really see how this story could work over several seasons.

Maybe in the final episode #10 of this first season we will finally see some of the monsters from the film.

In the next episode, they should all get to the mall and it just collapses. The End.

I kid but I've found that I've become a fan of batshit bonkers thrillers. It wasn't a conscious thing, like where I'd say I was a Sci-Fi fan but I realized one day how much I enjoy shows like this, Helix, The Strain, and so on. It's kind of a hatewatch thing but not really. Probably fostered (festered?) by watching 24 and Lost.

All the references I've seen say "First season." The ratings don't look good, but I have no idea what's good for Spike.

I don't know if things have changed over the years or not but they cancelled the Blade series because the ratings were OK but too many women watched(!). Of course, as a red-blooded white male this is the first I've tuned into Spike since then lol.

This may be the first time I've ever watched Spike. I didn't even realize it was a "guy" channel. :rommie:

I wasn't too far off! Not too bad to see an end for those insufferable fucks at the mall though it would've been better to see even more of The Mist having its way with them. It should've been a bacchanal in there.

Hey Alex, not only have we dragged you through the wringer with this rape but you've been lusting after your brother and your dad isn't your dad. Next season we'll find out you're pregnant and The Mist has fucked up your baby, you're welcome.

Speaking of next season, I don't know that I care all that much about the origin of The Mist at this point. Adrian survives but does anyone actually give a shit? Maybe he'll become King of The Mist. At least we're not stuck in that mall.

Agreed, I'm glad the idiot mall psychos bought it but I could've done with a bit more of that, bit of a cathartic release...

Normally, I am opposed to the deaths of major characters for mere shock value, but in this case I would have probably cheered at a clean sweep. Well, except for Irene Bedard. It would have been some comfort to see an actor of her caliber as the sole survivor after being relegated to a supporting role for this bunch.

So did the writers not know they only had ten episodes? Because that had to be the lamest cliffhanger of all time. People being kicked off a train-- and a random guess that they're being "fed" to the mist? And we still don't know why people with their names in the credits are mostly immune. Or why the mist ignored Alex at the mall and then gave her a big hug in the parking lot. Or why it was taking it forty-five minutes to kill her, but it wiped out her half brother in about five seconds. Or... or...

So the crazy pagan lady's death by zombie breastfeeding was creepy. I guess her latent morbidity was caused by the loss of a pregnancy in her youth. That would have been quite touching and horrifying in a better show.

Sigh.

Ten season episode and no monsters from the film. :brickwall: :censored:
My feelings exactly.

Just chugged the last 5 episodes.

Decent stuff. I was expecting killer rapist Adrian to burn everyone at the mall because of some chemical fires or something, but no, Kevin literally said "f*** all of you" and took it upon himself to kill them all.

Did not see that coming.

If there is a season two, it's looking like it'll be mostly uncharted territory. They wrapped up many season 1 storylines in this finale. (The mall people got more wrapped up than I ever imagined they could have.) If the show continues, it looks to be an investigation of the inner workings and origins of the mist.

Agree and the film's monsters should be featured in a season two. The Mist without monsters is like The Walking Dead without walkers, disappointing.
