The MISSION BOARD!

Fleet Captain
2015 is a banner year for Trek-related fan productions, but especially for TOS-era productions. A decade ago one was lucky if two or even three productions would get released in a given year (my impression, only), but we have had at least 2 hit the internet since december 1st, and I can point to at least a dozen in various stages of production.

While Star Trek continues is chugging along quite nicely, we are kept aware of all developments handily by some of the members here...

But there are other webseries, shorts and full-length that are in the midst of production or that have begun a kickstarter campaign that get little to no fanfare here, and often no updates from the higher-ups.

Hopefully this thread will catch on and worthy productions on the fringe can get a small boost of visibility here.

I'm going to try to keep to the facts as much as possible, if I goof on any detail by all means correct me.

I guess I don't understand why there are two closed stickied threads that haven't been updated since 2009 which presumably do the same thing? Seems sort of redundant. Is there any way to merge those and update so we have a single stickied updatable thread?

STAR TREK: AMBUSH

British-based production company and creators. A successful Kickstarter campaign closed in may 2014. Currently set-building, readying for second wave of shooting at the end of 03-2015 (All exterior lensing completed) http://youtu.be/sQBn_dq2Y28

No release date yet mentioned.

Synopsis by the creators:
"Ambush" will introduce you to a new ship and crew that exist in the Star Trek Universe, The USS Ambush. Set just after the events portrayed in "Balance of Terror", the original series episode. By focusing on a single away mission to rescue a captured Commander, "Ambush" will shed some light on how the Federation ultimately dealt with the Romulans, after the initial incident involving Kirk and The Enterprise.

YORKTOWN: A TIME TO HEAL

Canadian-American production group. A successful Indigogo campaign closed in November 2013, currently seeking funding for some post-production needs. All shooting seemingly completed. https://vimeo.com/65944786

No release date yet mentioned.

Plot synopsis: Long-delayed production featuring mid-1980s George Takei-starring footage to be merged with 2014 characters for the last battle of the USS Yorktown, only to launch the refit Yorktown (akin to TMP Enterprise?) off to finish the adventure.

Usually I don't mind reusing\reviving an existing thread, but in this instance why revive an old thread that is likely filled with deadend\abandoned projects, and perhaps only a handful of succesful ones?

So I judged it more prudent to start fresh and to hopefully focus on productions that might have sets built \booked, or at least footage shot. Going through the existing threads I read about projects that had an elaborate website bursting with character bios, but zilch on the actual practical filmmaking results.

I don't seek to have this thread stickied, i'm doing it for fun and want to give a deserved boost to fellow filmmakers. And frankly speaking the others should get un-stickied due to inactivity.

Sounds good, and I agree that those outdated threads should be allowed to sink like the Titanic. :)

There are two fundraisers ongoing for two other planned TOS era shows, Star Trek: Valiant and Star Trek Anthology. Both fundraisers are linked from my Headline at Star Trek Reviewed, but not at the top of the page.

The story promises many surprises and characters old and new from within the STAR TREK cannon." http://youtu.be/MqHaZrqaz4Y

Er... are you trying to list everyone who claims to be in active production? Is there some other limiting criteria? Cause I've got a listing of 25 which I classify as "active" (see a single letter or number) and another 14 which I classify as "slow progress" (two letters starting with "A") here: http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/210.html . Granted, these are only groups that have not produced a film. I have additional listing for active groups that have already produced films. I'm just trying to get a handle on what you are trying to list.

You have answered your own question. That's all information on your page, separate from TrekBBS, and presented by your criteria.

I'm just trying to get a handle on what you are trying to list.

Bixby is posting a thread cataloguing the fan films in production in 2015. It seems fairly straightforward to me.

Sorry for the delay, Barb, I got too busy with work recently. Basically, I think increasing visibility and igniting more of a discussion for and about productions groups that are actually IN production are my goals.

There are some very interesting groups and premises out there, such as Star Trek Futures and the Chicago-based individual that had planned to build an entire bridge for a Mirror Universe-set film, but both are still in early-early-EARLY pre-production phase, and thus are more a wait and see type of production in my mind, while there are others who have gone beyond this initial stage and should possibly get a bit of a helping hand .

While you or other members are welcome to post their own updates here in this thread (facts as much as possible, please), I'm personally hoping to focus mostly on groups that actually have footage shot or seem solid enough to be more than just one-hit wonders.

STAR TREK :EXCALIBUR

Las Vegas-based american production group (apparently unrelated to Star Trek: Secret Voyage's Sheeler group). Just recently successfully completed a non-production-related Kickstarter, and are now finishing the script stage for their first full-length webisode (working title: ''Yesterday Awakens''). One introductory short length-film already released (https://youtu.be/WkNOHCtNF4M, and re-edited version: https://youtu.be/leYxGz0dp9k). Some in-house set-building and bridge filming at Starbase studios planned for the coming months.

No release date yet mentioned.

Series premise: Star Trek: Excalibur is set during or after the 3rd season of Star Trek and follows the exploits of the Federation Starship USS Excalibur, a Constitution-Class ship.

Early FX demo: https://youtu.be/VVYf9Qga77w

Thank you. So you are looking for fan film production groups that have (or are about to start) shooting and have the potential for more than a one-off. That's very helpful. I'll probably just PM you with suggestions, after the reception I got from just asking this question.

I think we should discuss with the mods some method of updating/replacing the "Fan Productions: Titles, Description and Links" pinned/closed thread on the forum.
