The Middleman

"Mutual of Omaha!" The Middleman is in trouble:

The Middleman may not get a Season 2

"The fate of the show is uncertain, and that's really no secret. I thought a conclusive note that states what the show is about was a better way to end the first season and go into the possibility of a second season or perhaps not the possibility of a second season."

On his blog, Grillo-Marxuach subtly hints that fans should send M&M candies to ABC Family to show their love for the show (he never mentions them by name, but there are four pictures full of candy-coated chocolate goodness).

. . .

"If ABC Family decides this is not a show that is, right now, as compatible with his brand as it could be," he says, "and if they decide to take it elsewhere, I'm on board.

Hmm... cause for concern, but also for hope. The network may not renew the show on their own airwaves, but are apparently fond enough of it to try to sell it elsewhere if they don't.

O bother.

I just had a horrific thought.

The Middleman, completely in reverse of the pick up line "my god you're beautiful... Do you have a daughter?" is going to date Lacy's Mommy... Which would quite possibly erect a love triangle from hell if Henry Kissinger is still in the picture?

Sarah Connor Chronicles Andy Goode, perhaps the creator of Skynet joins the regular cast semi supporting like? Does this mean that they cannot or they must parody the terminator franchise?

Would the show's chances of survival be improved if it were merely 30 minutes long, as opposed to the normal 60 minutes?

I swear there was a Star Trek II semi-reference in there: "No real names on an open frequency" or words to that effect.
I loved the other part of that scene...

Wendy: "...and next to her, a spectral apparition that looked just like her!"
Middleman: "Ghosts of the living!"
Wendy: "Is that one of your snappy exclamations, or are you just... defining what we're up against?"

EDIT: What the Sam Hill? They seem to have removed all the Memorable Quotes from IMDb!
I had at least five good ones from the Pilot on there! Took me some effort to transcribe those!

And I liked MM's followup: "A little of both, I suppose."

I really hope they don't kill this show, we have already lost to many good shows recently.

Just started watching The Pretender on Hulu, and got kinda excited seeing Javier Grillo-Marxuach's credit as Story Editor.

Had a Twilight Zone moment while watching the third episode (where the Jarod character pretends to be a fighter pilot): As Jarod is riding his bicycle across the airplane boneyard, there's a carcass of a 747 in the background...

(See, cuz, Javi was Supervising Producer on LOST)

No comments on last night's episode with Kevin Sorbo as a previous Middleman revived from cryogenic storage? It was a good one, and Sorbo proved once again that he actually can be a good actor when he has good material and good direction and isn't too lazy and self-indulgent. He wasn't the best choice for the role; his performance was more a good Kevin Sorbo than an ideal James Bond type (and no way was that a 1969 hairstyle). But he was effective, and his delivery of his final line was excellent.

I liked the reference to the obscure, cancelled 1960s TV show. Although I wish we'd seen more of Wendy in the Ursula Andress bikini. But it was great seeing her finally wear the leather catsuit from the promos/titles. As for her new MM uniform, I'm not sure I like it.

MM was really great here. For all his nerdy comical quirks, he's a very noble, admirable fellow, a man of compassion and nurturing strength -- which makes him far more of a real man in my book than his posturing, womanizing, tough-guy predecessor. I loved seeing him stand up to Guy, and it was great that Ida stayed loyal to him after all. Matt Keeslar continues to impress me greatly. This is an actor I could see playing Superman convincingly.

Still not that enthralled by the relationship stuff. It was okay, but Tyler is too perfect to be believed, or to be particularly interesting. And as soon as Wendy decided to stop worrying and be happy in the relationship, I was saying to myself, "Okay, Tyler is so doomed in the season finale."

And what was going on in the hallway when Tyler was on the phone to Wendy? It looked like it was being remodeled or something. I was expecting that to have some payoff, but it was just some unexplained bit of business.

While we're on the subject of her domicile, there's something I've been wondering all along: what's a sublet and why is this one illegal? My guess would be that the person who leases the building is in turn leasing its apartments to other tenants even though he doesn't have a license to do so, or it isn't zoned for that purpose, or something like that. Close?

Excellent review. Tyler is a bit too perfect, which is why he chafes. I'm all for Wendy finding love, but it's a bit too much too soon for me. I want to get to know her. Not know her in a romantic relationship.

When she hugged MM, I was right there with her. Love MM. He's a dork, but he's our dorky, ex-Navy Seal, who is the big brother Wendy never had.

Bland though Tyler may be, I'm pleased the show isn't taking the cliched route of having romantic tension between MM and Wendy. It's refreshing to see a close male-female relationship on TV that's based on something other than sex. And the MM/Lacey romance was really sweet.

Well I LOVED the catsuit it was similar to the one in the credits and I liked the I Spy references of their Scott and Robinson aliases and of course Count Manzeppi came from The Wild Wild West.

What bugged me was the scene where Guy/MM69 was getting dressed in the locker room. We saw him putting on a shirt and jacket, but he didn't have any opportunity to put on anything below the waist.

Caught a reference to an old syndicated show The Protectors - Harry Rule and the Contessa di Contini, who were played by Robert Vaughn and Nyree Dawn Porter, respectively.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. I kept waiting for some mention of it, and they never even aknowledged it.
As for the episode, I can't really think of anything more to add other than that I thought it was a good epi., and that I liked Kevin Sorbo as Guy.
