The Middleman (coming in June)

SlyCardie

Anyone else seen promos for this? It's a new show for ABC Family that's about a monster/alien/super villain destroying art school graduate.

I know, ABC Family? But I'm counting on this being very fun because it's based on the comic book by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, who also produced Lost, Medium, Jake 2.0 and Charmed. I really like the comic, and as a weekly TV show I can see this being very entertaining. Any other fans of the comic?

This premieres tonight. Anyone else checking it out? I don't know anything about the comic book, but this show could be goofy, sci-fi fun. It could be total crap, too, but I'm willing to check it out.

Loved it! I was surprised that some of the language got on ABC Family (apparently they're not as uptight as their religious programming would lead one to believe!), but on the whole, great fun! And Natalie Morales is sweet!

I'm looking forward to the next episode - this one was a little uneven at times, wandering between too-witty-for-its-own-good and right on the mark.

Get your filthy paws off me, you damn dirty ape!

"Photographic memory?"
"Abstract impressionist."

It was fun, and Morales is a lot hotter than I thought she'd be. (A lot of really beautiful women don't photograph well, it seems to me. Beauty is a dynamic thing.)

I don't know if the religious programming was serious or not, but the only reason they still air it, is because when they bought the channel the contract basically said they have to air the show basically forever.

Anyway, about the show. I really enjoyed it, it was...different. Never read the comics but I will definitely watch next week. I enjoyed the humor.

Should this thread be moved to scifi and fantasy? Definitely a Scifi show.

I watched it. It is another one of those campy B scifi shows like Doctor Who, Flash Gordon remake on Scifi, etc... I doubt I tune back into it.

Don't you dare compare this trash of a show to Doctor Who.

ABC Family actually has decent shows, Kyle XY and Greek are great show.

I can't even call The Middleman a TV show because I wanted to rip my eyes out while watching it.

It's more like Men in Black meets Moonlighting meets The X-Files meets the Adam West Batman. It's more of an outright comedy than either of the shows you mention. Doctor Who is lighthearted and often funny, but dramatic as well. Flash Gordon was an adventure-drama with humor.

Oh, I know ABC Family has decent shows. I liked Kyle XY (at least the first season). I only mentioned Doctor Who because it seemed like the same style. I am not a fan of Doctor Who. I label it as B sci-fi. It is campy. I tend to prefer serious sci-fi.

I thought it was quite funny and charming. The two leads were really good. They had nice chemistry. And Natalie Morales is really cute. The Middleman is such a straight laced dude and Matt Kesslar did a great job playing that type of character. Loved all the comic book references. Gorilla Grodd indeed. :D

Gorilla Grodd. :rommie:

I loved the personalities of the main characters, especially the way they act totally unfazed by the wacky things that happen around them. In most shows half the time is spent being all "omg, I can't believe that just happened, let me act emotional for 5 minutes...."

The snappy dialog and cult references were also great and made me pay close attention whereas with some shows I might tune out. Can't wait to see what other crazy stuff the duo will deal with.
