The Merry Christmas Everyone Thread!

Yesterday's Christmas was all right. No christmas presents, though. Due to tough times. We didn't have much money left in our pockets to buy anyone for our loved ones. So, we're going to make it up next year.

Economy's still recovering from the deep recession.

I remember one Christmas when I really struggling and I decided to make some of my children's presents.

For my middle son I scourged a piece of board which I believe had been a shelf in a small cupboard. I hammered dozens of nails into it and bought a large packet of multicoloured elastic bands which came in various sizes. I made a label that said String Art Game and placed it all into a plastic bag and stapled it up. My son loved it and spent many hours making different designs on it. In other words I made something like this but with more nails in it and it only cost me about 1/6 of the price.

Did he like it?

Yes, he loved it.

The same Christmas I made a couple of elaborate sock puppets and a sock snake for my youngest son. I actually bought new socks for the project, as well as proper stuffing for the snake. I also bought one of those pipe cleaner craft packets, open it up took the eyes, as well as some of the pom poms and one of the large pipe cleaners and used these to make the sock puppets/sock snake. I put the pipe cleaner in the snake so that he was bendable. I repackaged the pipe cleaner craft packet and also gave that to my son.

I would certainly love a homemade puppet or stuffed animal. That's a great gift. :bolian:

Love the stories of your home-made gifts, Miss Chicken!

Home-made gifts are the best, I think. Last year I knit my daugher some long fingerless gloves out of variagated sock yarn, and it was by far her favourite gift. In fact, from the looks of them I may be knitting her a new pair for her birthday in March.
