The Making of Star Trek (1968)

So I was looking to buy a copy of The Making of Star Trek from 1968, but the ones I can find seem pretty expensive. Is it now a collectors item? Is that why the price is so high? Or am I just looking in the wrong places.

It's a nearly fifty year old book, so it could be a collectors item now, I have a making of TOS book somewhere, but it's no where near fifty years old.

In that case, am I right in assuming the 1991 re-printed is exactly the same? Or is it updated at all? Would quite like to read it in its original if possible.

I don't know about 1991, but my 1986 reprint edition is exactly the same as my '70s edition aside from having a white cover instead of silver. As far as I know, there was never a revised or updated edition.

In that case I will try and look for one of those. Still, the 1991 edition is upwards of £100 new... Clearly it is a good book.

Saw one on a markets book stall a couple of weeks ago, £2.50. If you live in Great Yarmouth, England you're going to be in luck!

Yeef! Prices like that are no doubt a product of the decline and fall of places like Bertrand Smith's Acres of Books.

AFAIK, there's never been an update to the text, despite many reprints and cover designs. The episode guide covers only the first two seasons, IIRC. That would have been an obvious addition, to add Season Three.

David Gerrold's "World of Star Trek" used to appear alongside this book, as a companion volume, in the early 1980s, and his book has all three seasons' titles listed, IIRC. ("World of Star Trek" did get an overhaul/reprint in the mid 80s.) For a time (still?), Gerrold offered the original as a free eBook from his website.

It's been reprinted so many times...I replaced my 80s version with a new one a few years ago.

I still have a copy that a got as a boy in the '70s at a school book fair and I purchased a reprint copy in the '90s.

Shocked to learn it hasn't been reprinted since 1991? I bought the 1986 copy.

Just saw that Gerrold's "World of Star Trek" has a new edition coming out Sept 6th 2016.
