I was amazed to discover that this show was made in 1976, since I was busing born right then and that my first viewing of this in the 80s was probably the third rerun, but I've almost completed the first season, and despite starring children and Australians, the story telling is quite tight and precise and moving forward... But I can't help thinking how 21st century children raised on Counter strike would handle life on the Lost Islands if not immediately beginning a military campaign to destroy the opposition after that first day when they were almost fed to the crabs.

The worst thing about science fiction from down under, is mistaking Kiwi SF for Ozzie SF or vice versa and offending up to two people on the internet.

It's actually quite similar to the Planet of the Apes TV show, where those two astronauts teach the medieval ape hamlets all the cultural backstop mankind had picked up before it fell, as they MacGyvered their way out of traps and conundrums with modern technology they either disguised as magic or told forcefully to idiot villages that it's not magic but TECHNOLOGY.

Planet of the Apes and the Lost Islands both had an episode about building a hang-glider to scare the locals into believing that they had godlike powers.

When the Monster turned up on the Lost Islands, I started to draw parallels to another show about a Lost Island.

Plagiarism?

The villain in the lost Island is an immortal in purple who crashed on the island 200 years earlier. Not too dissimilar to the man in black.

Halfway through Lost, Desmonde in a sailboat shows up, halfway through the Lost islands some German idiot in a sail boat turns up.

Oh.

Sorry.
