I really do want to see a Stephen King Star Trek episode.

Not planning on seeing it, but WOULD like to see it on Streaming. Can someone do a quick non-spoilery review?

Especially interested in Mark Hamill's performance

I read The Long Walk so long ago that I have forgotten most of the details. Which pleases me, because I remember enjoying it but will be able to watch the movie without knowing how most of it plays out.

You're not likely to recognize his voice or even his face unless you know he's in it, which you do. He's hiding behind J.D. Cannon's sunglasses throughout. He gets somewhat foolish at the close, though his character never shows fear. That's more than I can say for Luke Skywalker in the fourth episode of that thing he did back in the day..

The number of contestants and the ending details significantly differ. I'll just say that the scripters may have noticed what James Franco did with his IN DUBIOUS BATTLE adaptation and taken a similar route.
I'm kinda burned out on dystopian future history right now.
King wrote his novel even before ''Carrie,'' and eventually published it as Richard Bachman around 1977. That year of course predates HUNGER GAMES as well as BATTLE ROYALE. If you didn't enjoy BELKO INCIDENT (a film meant for enduring than enjoying) you'll find the approach here is similar.

It's interesting that we're getting both 'The Long Walk' and 'The Running Man' in the same year, and both the novels and films could, conceivably, be set in the same universe, in slightly different time frames.

Has anyone else seen this yet? I went last night.

I thought it was very nicely put together, it's been so long since I read the novel that I couldn't tell you how much was changed. Cooper Hoffman is good as Ray and David Jonsson followed a wonderful turn in Alien Romulus with another great performance. I continue to enjoy Mark Hamill's late career renaissance as well.

I was slightly disappointed that Pete killed the Major. It was a good cathartic moment but undercut all the good words Pete had spoken to Ray earlier.

Also it seemed to go too quickly, for a film about an endurance test it should have felt more of a slog (in a good way). One minute there were loads, the next there's just a handful left)

These are minor quibbles though, overall I thought it was very good.

On question if people have seen it. My cinema seemed to start the film early and combined with me running late I missed the start. When I got in the Major was giving his speech to the boys before the walk started so I'm hoping I didn't miss too much (and whatever I did miss didn't dent my enjoyment). Wikipedia says there's a scene with Ray's mum driving him to the starting line, does anyone know roughly how much I missed. Hoping it's just a few minutes rather than 5/10
