That was an odd episode to be honest, insofar as the guest's acting outshone that of Wang's so much that it made it seem like the POV of the episode was from her perspective, not that of him or anyone else from the main cast - which is generally a no-no in TV.
Eliminating Ship in a Bottle. Either because of the writing or Stephanie Beacham's performance, I find that Moriarty's love interest is one-sided, no revealing any real relationship. I don't know. I thought she was convincing as a 19th-century countess. She had all the demeanor and the Emily Post manners of someone like that.
My concern was with the relationship, which is central to the quality of the romance within the episode. Moriarty very much loved at her.
I think it's impossible for someone to really be in a dramatically interesting relationship with a partner which was tailor-created for them. You need some sort of friction for the sparks to fly.
True and the episode was already busy enough without those frictions. That would have just made it unwatchable.
