DS9 Season 4: "Rules Of Engagement" Is completely un-Klingon, plus the plot is totally unbelievable.

    1) How do you hide the fact that 400 (?) people died six months earlier? You have to invent a credible life for each and ensure that thousands of relatives/friends/acquaintances are ready to lie about that if asked. How could you hope to keep a secret with that many people in the know?

    2) It's not in the nature of Klingons to hatch byzantine deceptions like that.

    3) Worf should have been locked down for being too stupid to refrain from punching a lawyer in court!!!

    4) The Klingon lawyer's strategy makes no sense whatsoever. He keeps contradicting himself. The admiral would have to be a complete imbecile to be convinced by his arguments. It seems his only goal was to get punched (which even if you know Worf is a bit dicey, he's refrained from punching people before) otherwise he's at the very bottom of his profession.

    5) The whole episode is pointless, given the stakes, we knew that there would be a deus ex machina to save Worf at the last minute.

    Regarding "RULES OF ENGAGEMENT"...

I give that episode much more credit than some might. Two reasons...

One, the thing that really sets this one apart from other Klingon stories in the 24th century is that it goes back to the more conniving ways of STAR TREK Klingons. STAR TREK VI (Chang and his group), "A PRIVATE LITTLE WAR", "THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES", and "FRIDAY'S CHILD" were complete opposites of the loud, brute warriors of the 24th century Klingons. Other than the Duras family conspiring with the Romulans, there's almost no fully Klingon chess match against our heroes. It was refreshing.

Second thing I loved was how the actors talked TO the camera during their depositions. Except for Sisko in "IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT", I don't think it was ever done again, which makes it unique.

(Not trying to say your elimination did not have good points or value, and I do agree with some of them. I just wanted to show a bit of love for this diamond in the rough.)

I agree with that. I too liked the way they filmed the scenes. It's just that I am more of a fan of the warring Klingons than of the scheming ones. There are enough species doing that already!

I'd forgotten all about the DIS episode Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum, a confusing episode that tried to advance too many storylines at once.

Oh god, you're so right, the plotting of the Klingon portions of "Si Vis Pacem" is INSANE. So many crazy, implausible veers that the other characters shouldn't be fooled by for a second.

But I am here to toss "A Private Little War." God, I never realized how much this was the original use of the Klingons -- dull, draggy episodes where they're fighting proxy wars on agrarian-feeling planets.

Eliminating TNG Season 4: “The Mind’s Eye”, because it's not much of a Klingon story. You could have replaced the scheming Klingon by many other alien species without changing much to the story. I like my Klingons to be Klingons.

The Time Trap. An okayish, but not overly memorable episode of The Animated Series, and Kor's portrayal here honestly felt pretty half-assed compared to the rest of the franchise.

Now just the big Kor, Koloth and Kang episodes are left in TOS. :)

I'll take another swing at DIS and remove Point of Life...

Another Klingon focused episode with odd pacing and too much going on. Tyler was such a pointless character in season two after is story had played out by the end of season one.

TAS “More Tribbles, More Troubles” is cute, but just a bit too derivative.

Shadows and Symbols. The battle between the Jem'Hadar and Klingons is actually really well done, but the story as a whole is brought down by Worf behaving like an ass towards O'Brien, Bashir and Quark, Ezri being absolutely insufferable, and the lack of any explanation as to why the all-powerful Orb of the Emissary is buried on some desert planet in the middle of nowhere.

"DAY OF HONOR" dies today, which is the last VOYAGER Klingon episode. VOYAGER never really did good Klingon episodes, despite having a half Klingon as a lead.

Removing Blood Oath. It's not that well written an episode and it's a bit of a stretch that Dax can do this and then just come back like nothing happened. Can you request a leave from the military and say "Oh I have to go murder someone" and then not have any consequences for it?

DS9 Season 3: “The House Of Quark” is not a bad episode per se, in fact, it's even one of the good ones, but it's much more of a Quark episode than of a Klingon one, at least that's the way I see it.

I have never really cared for either part of "Redemption." It's TNG's weakest cliffhanger/premiere pairing for me, I like it less than "Descent." It has so many problematic effects that radiate out and ruin Trek in either direction... so much of the disempowering of Klingon women of this whole Trek era came from the contrivances here, to create plot obstacles for Lursa & B'Etor. And after "Yesterday's Enterprise" unruined Tasha's death, the Sela reveals reruin it! And it's just kind of a flat story, it doesn't pull me in. Basically flipping a coin between the two, I'll off "Redemption II." I guess I also am not into the Data story in that half.

I'll make it two in a row and knock out the first half of Redemption. While I actually thought it was for the most part an effective pay-off to the arc of Worf's discommendation, what I really didn't like was the annoyingly sanctimonious way in which Picard declared that they would not give any assistance to Gowron, which I think set a bad precedent for future Prime Directive episodes (even if they technically didn't mention it by name).

DS9 Season 7: “Tacking Into The Wind”: Because Gowron's behavior was uncharacteristically bad. His motives for wanting to destroy Martok were strained at best and he couldn't be so stupid as not to realize that he was giving his empire to the Dominion on a silver platter. It would be like someone setting his house on fire to have a pretext to fire the maid!!!

I'm going remove the last episode from season two of DIS, Through The Valley Of Shadows.

It's funny that the two episodes from season two of DIS were probably me least favourite of season two, because I think overall season two was a bit improvement on the first.

This episode contains, again, too many plot strands going on at the same time, again leading to more confusion on the Klingon part of the arc. Too much Tyler again as well. ;)

The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not For The Lamb’s Cry. In retrospect, one of the least memorable episodes from Discovery's first season, with Landry getting herself killed in a face-palmingly dumb way, and the whole "giant tardigrade navigates the ship through the spore drive" thing... well, I wasn't completely against the idea, but they could have explained it a LOT better.

TNG Season 2: “A Matter Of Honor”: all the episodes left are good but this one IMO is the weakest plus the Benzite's idea that you don't bring up a problem unless you have a solution is downright stupid, unbelievably stupid, e.g. a sick person would not talk about their sickness because they don't know how to cure themselves!!! :rommie:

It's get's getting harder now. I've gone with Rightul Heir this time anyway. It was good seeing the effect of, erm, 'Kahless' amongst his people. Good episode, but there are better ones left.
