The Least Disliked Ferengi Episode

TNG really didn’t do Ferengi episodes very well at all.

They really did not. In that spirit, axing "The Price." This aspect of the story isn't so Ferengi-related, but Troi/Ral might be Trek's worst ROTW. So gross. And the Ferengi are used in such a dumb, capering capacity. Again.

Now we're getting to the point where the remaining episodes are by and in large pretty decent. I'll take out DS9: Body Parts, which is an overall solid episode, but I didn't like how they resolved the storyline by essentially rehashing Worf's discommendation.

"Suspicions" is out just for being awful. Crusher hosts an engineering conference, security sits out a murder investigation, nobody notices if you're still alive and you climb out of a morgue drawer (and into a shuttle), and the way the villain exposits his entire Evil Plan (TM) would be over-the-top in a Roger Moore Bond film.

I'll cut TNG's last remaining Ferengi episode from the list. Peak Performance isn't bad at all really, especially for the second season, but you can tell the show was still just one or two steps away from really hitting its stride.

I guess it comes down to my vote.

I am eliminating "BAR ASSOCIATION". Nothing against the episode, it's really good. It's just we get even more in depth on Ferengi culture with "FAMILY BUSINESS", and judging the winner solely on more Ferengi-ness, that deserves to be the winner of the two. Plus, excellent performance by Andrea Martin, and the first time we see the great Jeffrey Combs as Brunt edges it out.

"FAMILY BUSINESS" is the winner!!

I would not have predicted this winner! Though I myself really like "Family Business", I always thought I was the only one.

It really is a pleasure to work on these lists and then watch it unfold. I like how the eliminations in this one, broadly speaking, started from either end and worked towards the middle. If you were graphing the quality of the Ferengi episodes, it really would like like a ^. A remarkably inauspicious beginning AND ending, but in the middle there they found some good stuff.

I almost removed "Little Green Men" myself near the end, but I found myself more curious to see if anyone else would toss it. I always feel like I'm the only one who's not so into it.

I too was rooting hard for "House Of Quark"! It'll probably also end up on the "Least Disliked Klingon Episode", maybe it'll win that...

My favourite Ferengi episodes on your list were Prophet Motive, The House of Quark, Little Green Men, Body Parts, Business as Usual, and The Magnificent Ferengi.

Oh and maybe Samaritan Snare from TNG as well.
