The least disliked episode of Voyager - Season Four

I'll take out The Omega Directive, though I did like the sense of it being like the Holy Grail to Seven.

Scorpion (II)
The Gift
Year of Hell (I)
Year of Hell (II)
Hunters
Living Witness
One

I was about to eliminate Omega Directive but somebody cross-posted me by a second.

So instead I will eliminate the champion, Living Witness. Nothing wrong with the episode, a few flaws in the premise ignorable due to strong execution. Just I always found it only a good episode and a tad overrated.

Scorpion (II)
The Gift
Year of Hell (I)
Year of Hell (II)
Hunters
One

The Gift is out, I wasn't the biggest fan of Kes but the way they hastily wrote her out this episode wasn't good.

"Hunters" exits, pursued by a bear. The receipt of letters from the Alpha Quadrant was a landmark event in series history, to be sure. But I hated the way they completely copped out on the question of Tom's letter from his dad. And I rolled my eyes when Chakotay, still presumably coming to terms with the deaths of his friends and the loss of his cause in the AQ, never mentioned Word One about any of that to his captain and supposed friend, instead consoling her over the loss of her dog-sitter back home. I've heard of self-effacement, but sheesh!

Hmm, I think I'll toss Year of Hell II. Lots of good stuff here, but it can't help but be disappointing at the end when it's all just erased, even though of course that's baked into the premise. You're mainly left thinking about how much better Voyager would have been as a series if it didn't confine these types of stories to a two-parter that gets completely reset at the end.

One.

I like it, but it was getting to be a theme with Seven. And her being conveniently unaffected (for the most part)

Year of Hell (I)

I'm curious if anyone else would have eliminated Living Witness. I had already written up my explanation for eliminating Omega Directive before it was eliminated seconds before I would have eliminated it. Just shows the chaotic nature of this game that one of the favorites is eliminated by a matter of seconds. :)

If the other things on the list were The Gift, Hope And Fear, One, and Omega Directive, I would have tossed Living Witness.

Geez, there's really a theme in those favorites! Seven truly is one of the great sci-fi characters, though of course it was also a problem how her presence knocked the elements around her even further out of balance.

I liked Living Witness - a lot. The evil crew :)

So it's down to half a two part. Either Scorpion (II) goes or Year of Hell (I). Tough choice but I prefer Year of Hell - the whole thing. Goodbye Scorpion (II).

Year of Hell (I).

Good choice. The total chaos in part one of Year of Hell was very well portrayed. I also love Scorpion. I used to have a VHS with both parts of Scorpion and Year of Hell on it and it used to get some good rewatch. :)

It's a shame in a way the two part stories are split in these games. There were some really gruelling moments in Year of Hell (II) that you arrived at because of the whole story. The physical toll. Janeway and those burns, Tuvok blinded and being lead by Seven. The final hug Janeway had with Tuvok. It was darker and exhausting, yet when Janeway slammed Voyager into the Krenim ship - yo Captain!

I know what you mean, but I think I generally have distinct feelings about two-parters that aired separately. I was going to post earlier about how I like Year Of Hell I as the winner, and I'm the one who eliminated Year Of Hell II. I've watched the first part many times over the years. The second part... two, maybe three times.
