The least disliked episode of DISCO - Season One

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This is a game that we play on the other boards every few years, and it's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, after two seasons, it's time to bring it to DISCO.

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, please leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

Goodbye “Will You Take My Hand?”. Very underwhelming finish to the season.

I'll remove When Past is Prologue first. They decided to remove Lorca from our scenes in the least interesting way possible. They also had him lose all ounce of interesting charactersation he'd had all season, becoming a big bad guy instead.

The War Without, the War Within

"The War Without, The War Within" There's a lot to love about Disco's first season, but the last two eps are a total trainwreck, they did not manage to land their season arc at all. It's just a pile of storytelling cheats and pace-quickening gimmicks, deeply unsatisfying.

What is asked of me is like Sophie's Choice. That said I will remove "The Vulcan Hello" for being the weakest of the two episodes I like the least, IE the first two. I would have preferred if they had started with ep 3 and made a slow reveal as to how Michael got there.

Si Vis Pacem is out. Aside from the opening battle, it is VOY-like slog to get through.

"Battle at the Binary Stars" is out. I just didn't care for the events that were occuring like I should. It all felt off for some reason.

I have to sit out the rest of the way. What's left made no impression on me at all, outside of "Context is for Kings".

"Vaulting Ambition": Because it's the one where they eat mirror Saru ... The horror, the horror...

Despite Yourself, despite being a good episode has to go. It's a crowded end of the season, and killing of Culber wasn't strictly necessary, though it's led to an interesting arc in its own right

Ha! I was just writing a post offing "Despite Yourself" now. Killing Culber was probably the single worst dramatic decision Discovery has made yet. They had something that was working so perfectly, they tossed it away for cheap shock value, and a season and a half later they have not succeeded in undoing the damage.

Instead, I'll get rid of "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not For The Lambs Cry", despite it's awesome title. The plotting of the Klingon story in this is a mess.

Get thee gone: "Into the Forest I Go". I know it's a favorite for some, but no I just didn't care for the whole thing - a 'singing planet' meh.

Context Is for Kings
Choose Your Pain
Lethe
Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad
The Wolf Inside
Vaulting Ambition

"Lethe" has to go.: Once again it makes Vulcans appear as complete assholes! What! After more than a century they can't have two 'not quite Vulcans' in their stupid armada (or whatever)!! Talk about prejudiced.

Context Is for Kings
Choose Your Pain
Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad
The Wolf Inside
Vaulting Ambition

"Vaulting Ambition" is devaulted. The mirror universe wasn't really necessary for this series, as fun as it may have been.

Context Is for Kings
Choose Your Pain
Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad
The Wolf Inside

Context is for Kings is probably the least interesting of what is left.

Choose Your Pain
Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad
The Wolf Inside

These probably are my three favorite of the season. Axing "Magic"... it falls apart in the climax in a way these other eps do not. Mudd's behavior in this is far too overtly evil and murderous for his ultimate punishment to be... being forced to return to his seemingly lovely, attractive wife. That'll teach him!

Choose Your Pain
The Wolf Inside

"Choose your pain" gets axed, for being all about Mudd, that people have described as far too nefarious. The rest, IE the replacement of the tardigrade by Stamets sounds like filler.

So the winner is: "The Wolf Inside"! Possibly the best Mirror Universe ep. of all time!

Vulcans have always been complete assholes. Going all the way back to “Amok Time”.

Not always. Tuvok on Voyager is in many episodes (almost all of them) and yet he's never shown as an asshole (not the real Tuvok that is).
