The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - VOY Season 5

BlueStuff

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favourite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

This one's easier than my ex, which directly and not even tangentially leads to:

The Disease

Really. For decades, at least that we know of so there are bound to be others before them, Riker and Kirk taught love-- well, Kirk taught love, Riker was just the easiest way to compromise the Federation with - no pun intended. Does nobody watch them James Bondage spy movies where both sides use teh oinkydoink to score points for the other side? But poor Harry, determined to show just one person how Harry he is? Dang.

Never mind the ridiculousness of the ailment in question. Like other episodes, there's allegory and there's just misguided ideas. Even the allegorical ones sometimes fit the sex-themed concepts better, unintentionally or not.

At least there's a biochemical bond(age). But there could easily be a chance that there's a psi-related coercion as well, this is Star Trek!!

When in doubt, get Seven to explain it! Until he glows like a light bulb because he can't just have a rash or anything more directly associated. Don't tell me the Zetarians did the same thing to the folks in the library? Snuu-snuu?!

"The Fight" is an embarrassment. The plotting in this script could not be more tortured, and Beltran is phoning it in even more egregiously than usual.

Gravity is a slog of an episode to try and sit through. It's no Fight of course but a blessed holy warrior has already slain that foul beast.

Awww, I love "Gravity"! :bolian:It's maybe my favorite Tuvok episode.

I quite like this season, actually. Only 6 or 7 of these are failures for me, which is really good for Voyager.

I'm glad "The Disease" got choke-slammed first. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I'm zapping "Latent Image" because I think it's nuts that they risked the lives and health of the whole crew because the Doctor couldn't handle having a few problematic memories wiped. Especially after Janeway willingly violated the wishes of a flesh and blood crew member for the good of the ship.

Taking out "11:59".

It was simply boring. And it contradicts what Janeway said in "FUTURE'S END" when she said she had "no idea what my ancestors were doing at this time", which is only 3 years prior to tje events of "11:59".

Thirty Days is...not great.

It is suggested starships can travel underwater with some modifications but this is never seen or heard from again.

Why does the Federation have a Naval patrol in the 24th century? What could Earth's oceans need patroling for that wouldn't just been lumped into extended Starfleet duties and if it was simply an extention of Earth's own sovereign military then surely it wouldn't be Federation.

Overall it just seems like a weak excuse to make Paris an ensign a lot of development is undone in the name of an obsession never discussed before or again.

I've really upset people in past games with my elimination of this one, but I cannot stand "Counterpoint." Nothing about this story works for me. I just can't ever believe Janeway and this Nazi are going to be an item.

And the laziness of having Tuvok just standing on the bridge among the Nazi's at the end, after this whole episode dedicated to hiding him from them, and not addressing that at all. In a series that is positively overflowing with lazy hack writing, somehow this one detail stands out to me as one of the most infuriating.

"Dark Frontier". What exactly is the Queen's plan? It didn't make any sense to me.

Not too mention this episode forgets about the female Vulcan ex-Maquis and has a Betazoid despite Janeway being under the impression the ship didnt have one.

I think that "Extreme Risk" doesn't really properly explore the whole "self harm" issue. As someone who struggled with it for years, it's not something that just goes away quietly.

Taking out "JUGGERNAUT".

They made Torres even more angry than normal, which did her no favors here.

Plus, the Malon should NOT have been encountered at that point... not after the HUGE jumps closer to home from "TIMELESS" and "DARK FRONTIER".

Once Upon a Time has lasted longer than I expected it to. The thing with it is even on a first watch you know everything is going to work out in the end, it's pretty obvious.

There's a question of how the holograms recognise Samantha on a ship that wouldn't exist for decades after she ran the program.

I wonder where civilians run holoprograms, I expect Earth maybe has holosuites the same way we have cinemas. But then given how common and accepted sex with holograms is, is that just done in any old public holosuite so the person in the room next to you could be doing anything.

"Nothing Human" is another one of those where the setup for the moral dilemma is so contrived I can't invest in any of the drama. This story probably would have worked in the Alpha Quadrant if we were dealing with the real Cardassian mad scientist, but having to use the device of the hologram takes all the air out of it. And it all builds to such a convoluted mess of an ending.

I enjoyed the Bride of Chaotica program wehn it first appeared, but I find a bit of a slog to get throug the episode.

The production design was well done though.

Someone to Watch Over Me for the heinous crime of teasing Seven/Doctor but then having it never delivered on. Ever. Of course the Doctor would have to watch any loved one grow old and die, should make him very interesting in Academy.

"Warhead" is just a grind. When I used to work in TV, near the end of the season we'd always have a few episodes where I would think: this episode is so terrible due to all our exhaustion, the whole cast & crew can barely function anymore, it'll be a miracle if we get this one in the can at all, and no one has the energy left to even try to make it good. The absolute best case is that we simply get it done.

I have always found "Warhead" to be one of Trek's clearest examples of this late-season exhaustion. You can just feel it throughout the whole thing, everyone involved can barely muster the energy to get this finished.

Also, it's pretty bad that it's happening on the season's penultimate episode! It's usually two or three episodes from the end when you're close enough to the finish line that everyone perks up again.
