The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - SNW Final Rounds

I think I'm going with Those Old Scientists this time around. I love the episode, but we're down to the final four! There's not a lot to choose from now. Strange New Worlds is "what Star Trek is all about", Memento Mori is a very tense and exciting submarine style episode, and Subspace Rhapsody is one of the most entertaining episodes in the series.

I like Lower Decks and enjoy "TOS," but compared with the other three it isn't really about anything. Except, I guess, that Rebecca Romijn is really hot inspiring.

I'm going with Strange New Worlds this time. It did struggle a bit with setting up the whole series, but it's very good. I just finished up watching it again though, and the Spock/T'Pring scenes drag it down a little.

I'm going with Subspace Rhapsody. It was well executed but in just copying Buffy entirely misses the point of the emotional resonance and the arcs that had been built to lead to that moment. It isn't just about singing.

Well the odds seem long, but I've got to go "Memento Mori." It is exceptional, but "Rhapsody" is full-franchise-top-ten.

Also, every time "Mori" bumps me out with that reveal of the Gorn language - 26 letters, each one of which translates perfectly to one of the letters of our alphabet! I can usually nod right along with ridiculous alien translation things in Trek, but that is too much even for me.

It's funny how much @AntonyF's comment is the exact inversion of mine. "Subspace Rhapsody" is so beloved by me because they knew it couldn't just be "they sing!", and instead they carefully built it as the emotional culmination of the season arcs for La'an, Pike, Spock, Chapel, Una, AND Uhura.

That's what awed me so much, how smoothly the season had moved all those characters into a place of "I am feeling something I can't or won't express", until they got pulled into a musical reality that forced them too.

If it really comes down to a choice of watching just one of these two episodes, I'm going to go with the musical. So I'm giving Memento Mori a vote.

I'm just glad our winner wasn't something properly AWFUL like "A Quality Of Mercy" or "Ad Astra Per Aspera."

Or, god forbid, "The Elysian Kingdom."

Aww I consider Subspace and Scientists to be the 2 greatest outings of SNW. Ah well such is how the bourbon cream crumbles when you dunk it in tea for too long.
