The least disliked episode 2023 - TOS Season 1

Taking out "CHARLIE X".

While there are a lot of great horror elements here, I find it's the one I would rewatch the least of the remaining.

The Naked Time
Dagger of the Mind
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
Space Seed
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever
Operation: Annihilate!

This is like punching kittens. The Naked Time is next because it's too goofy and not as substantial as the remaining episodes.

Dagger of the Mind
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
Space Seed
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever
Operation: Annihilate!

I'm eliminating Space Seed, because it's my third least favorite of all TOS episodes, only beaten (just) by Spock's Brain for pure silliness, and Turnabout Intruder for blatant sexism. Uhura getting her face slapped is reason enough to eliminate this one.

Dagger of the Mind
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever
Operation: Annihilate!

Harder and harder to pick a least favorite out of what's left.

Taking out "DAGGER OF THE MIND" because I've never trusted shrinks. And this doctor was definitely off his rocker.

The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever
Operation: Annihilate!

A bunch of great episodes - and Operation: Annihilate! I hate those flying foodstuffs, Spock's magic inner eyelid, and Kirk's almost indifference to his brother's death.

The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever

So, so true! I would happily spend time with any of these, telling them how clever and admirable they are. But...perhaps I love "Errand of Mercy" a bit less? I'm uncomfortable with Kirk insisting on his right to go to war.

The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
The City on the Edge of Forever

The Corbomite Maneuver is a great episode, I just like the other three reaming more.

Balance of Terror
The Devil in the Dark
The City on the Edge of Forever

Supremely great episodes left!

It really comes down to personal taste at this point, because these are flawless.

I will take out "THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER" because "BALANCE OF TERROR" is one of my two all time TOS favorites (along with "THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE") and "THE DEVIL IN THE DARK" is just behind them.

Balance of Terror
The Devil in the Dark

By the way...

I want to thank BlueStuff for creating these games. They have always been such great fun, and an inspiration. I find them even more challenging than the Most Disliked counterparts because it's so hard to give up favorites. I feel like I have to think harder on why I am voting an episode off with these, and making my brain think harder is a good thing.

(Well, usually. Sometimes my brain can break, and you can't imagine how much tape and glue I've used to piece it back together over the years.)

Thanks Farscape - I wish I could take credit for it but I originally found the game being played on the old IMDb's Simpsons message board (way back when IMDb had individual message boards for every single film and TV show) and it was insanely fun. It was called "the best episode..." and of course, when I brought the game here TrekBBS took issue with that title! Hence, "least disliked" was born...

Plus, it may be the only third-year episode in which Uhura gets to beam down, which is rare enough.

It is (although she doesn't really "get" to beam down as she's forced against her will. And Uhura makes only five total landing parties (including Plato's Stepchildren) in the entire series. Also interestingly, of those five appearances, only one ("City on the Edge of Forever") is both the crew's idea and limited to the place she intended to go.

Saddle soap. Michael Dunn was inspirational. Even Flamenco Spock can become an acquired taste over time....and not just when you dub Dick Dale's ''Misirlou'' over the scene, as I did.

Oh, I don't hate Plato, and there are definitely good things about that episode, but some posters here famously hate it and rate it the worst episode of TOS.

And it wasn't until 1984 where Uhura actually had the opportunity to beam down to a real outdoor location as opposed to a soundstage as in all of the original series episodes.
