The least disliked episode 2021 - DS9 Season Five

The Ascent is out. Not the most imaginative of set-ups. "Hey, you know these two characters who frequently clash? Well, what if they were stranded somewhere and had to cooperate?" Yeah, great! Except we'd seen that exact template dozens of times before in Trek.

And it was all inspired by a movie called "Enemy Mine"... I don't get why they are not sued for plagiarism. The stories are so similar, it's staggering.

Two people who can't stand each other stranded on a planet must cooperate to be saved!!!

It's really difficult to choose, but I'm just gonna remove "Trials and Tribble-ations" because...eh...why are going to the Original Series Enterprise? Plus, while it's not the fault of the episode per se, it still eventually lead to that "Augment Virus" nonsense in Enterprise. They should have just made up Michael Dorn as a TOS Klingon in the scenes set on the TOS Enterprise and not commented on the whole thing.
Plus Jadzia's "women wore less" scene with all the men gaping at her dressed in the silly go-go dress uniform. Seriously?

The Ship
The Begotten
In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Business as Usual
Ties of Blood and Water

Taking out "THE BEGOTTEN" only because the Shakaar/Miles sitcom issues bring down the episode a notch.

The Ship
In Purgatory's Shadow

Business as Usual - not one of the worst Ferengi offerings, but the lesser of the remaining episodes.

The Ship
In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Ties of Blood and Water

In the Cards. A perfectly serviceable episode, but it's ultimately a fluff piece in among a bunch of far more significant stories.

The Ship
In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Ties of Blood and Water
Call to Arms

Well, this is gonna be interesting.
I have no idea anymore what to remove out of those five...

Next season might be even more difficult.

I'll remove The Ship, only because I like the others a bit more.

In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Ties of Blood and Water
Call to Arms

"Ties of Blood and Water" is untied. Because Kira's daughter-like love for the man is a bit forced and overboard at the beginning and then her turning into Nurse Ratched on him because she "discovered" that a high ranking official in a highly militarized society used the be a soldier!!! It's like she grabbed a pretext to hate the man and make his last days miserable. So it's a bit of character assassination for Kira.

In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Call to Arms

Whichever way you slice it, you're taking out a fantastic episode here. I'll reluctantly remove In Purgatory's Shadow - I think the sequel just edges it in quality and I love the way Call to Arms sets up the sixth season.

By Inferno's Light
Call to Arms

My vote is this...

"CALL TO ARMS" wins because it was not just an excellent episode, but possibly the best season finale in the franchise. Only TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds" can compete.

Worse, the Bajoran Orb of Time(tm) just happens to fling them across space, waaaaay across space, to Federation space circa a century earlier. It's one heck of a nitpick and I do enjoy the episode tons, but that nitpick is still a big one.

I wish the makers left the appearance differences at - "We do not discuss it with strangers, grr!", since - like most viruses - that's how they get spread in the first place. Gotta stop meeting all my future exes in bars... The next best thing would be to TOS him up. ENT was making meatballs out of any plot glop it could find and fling it at the wall to see what might stick.

I mean I know the episode is just good fun, and the blending of the new and old footage was very well done. And at least they are going to a Star Trek place instead of 20th century Earth, but well, had to eliminate something
