The last VCR was made in July......

I did get a VCR/DVD recorder for Christmas after the horrendous cheapy one and it managed to last about a year before it gave up the ghost. But in that time, I would autorecord to VHS, then remaster onto a DVD-R disc to remove commercials.

Eventually, I got a computer that had an adapter that allowed me to record directly from cable. That was good times.
The mid-2000s were an interesting time for people like us.
Everything was more of a cobbling together in an effort to do something that can now be done with the press of a button. Crazy.

DVD recorders were just the worst idea.
I remember working at Sears, and we were trying to sell these things. I mean, they were these bulky, slow, unreliable $400 machines. Plus, the commission percentage was like 0.25%, so it was pointless to sell one.

I had an LG DVD recorder with a built in digital tuner and that model seemed to work fine as it used a hard drive for storage. But you had the option to record to disk too.

Right?

My coworkers at MINI thought I was some kinda computer genius just because I actually bothered to figure shit out on the software we use everyday for work. many of them were Apple users. Enough said. ;)

But the difference between those of us that grew up along with the Internet versus those who grew up *with* the net is that we had to know how to fix these bugs ourselves. People knew how to navigate online with no virus protection and keep it clean. Much like how cars today are so much more advanced than they once we're even a generation ago. The German cars always needed specialists, but even Ford and Toyota aren't as simple for your Cousin Vinny to work on.

And the writers flipped crazy Quinn with Steffi, and now she is the crazy one. BTW Rena Sofer is brilliant as Quinn
Hehehe.

Do you post at Previously.tv, by chance? We've got a thriving forum for B&B over there. Not trying to pimp out other boards, but ain't no one here gonna know much about that show :p I mean the number of nicknames we've given the characters over there just for Ridge alone would need a score card.

Yeah, we both grew up alongside the internet as it grew.

I didn't start using antivirus protection until the mid-2000s, and I was never infected with a virus. I used an amalgam of watchdog programs, and just my own vigilance. These days, I use Windows Defender, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit, HijackThis!, and every month I use a boot disk to scan the hard drive, because things have become so much more complicated, and our privacy so much easier to breach. It's because everything is always on, it's always connected. When I was a teen, I could disconnect from my ISP, and go do other things unrelated to the internet. Now, though, even playing an "offline" game isn't really offline. It still connects to the internet for authorization. The door is always open, the gate never shuts.

We're young enough to appreciate new technology, but old enough to not take it for granted. This generation takes it for granted, because it's all they've ever known. Of course, we were the same way with other things growing up (like TV and radio). We just expected it to be there.

Hehehe.

It's an insult to use cars, since none of them I've got on trade ever went back to the owner that treat them like crap. ;)
