The Last Ship - Discussion Thread (spoilers possible)

Leads don't have to always be in the pilot episode. Look at Blake's 7, Villa was not in the pilot and ended up being in more episodes than anyone else over the 4 seasons of that show.

There was a short-lived Jerry Bruckheimer show UC: Undercover where Grant Show was they lead and he got killed off in like the second episode and replaced by Oded Fehr. But it was something they had planned.

Isn't Ferguson up there to? Coulda swore he was. Still funny seeing him as Tex, the last thing I remember seeing him in was Caprica as Vergis

Granderson kinda puzzles me as a main character. I know she is one, but I'll have to rewatch the season. Christina Elmore just doesn't seem to get a lot of screen time/lines compared to the others.

Shows have ideas for their main characters in the pilot that never come to fruition as the season goes on. In fact, a lot of pilots actually drop characters they intended to be regulars by the second episode, never to be seen again and often never mentioned again.

Indeed, figured there's be a little more development/attempts before they moved her to the wayside though if she was a main.

You mean Avon surely not Villa because Villa was in the first ep.

Yes your right, got them mixed up LOL. But yeah Avon became the star of the show.

Loved this series. The finale kept pulling surprises although the lieutenant was oh-so gonna take the ship was a let down. I find it odd that no armed guards were present on the bridge.

Yep... Season Finale...

Okay, hands up everybody who saw that ending coming.

(both hands go up...)

But isn't Titus Welliver always the good guy?

;)

Guess who's free to date the Doctor now?

I know, right? The Tom/Rachel shippers were jumping for joy (but doing so discreetly because a tragic death was involved).

They were in what was supposed to be a friendly port and got complacent.

The ten minutes preceding it were a give away.

Just those ten minutes? You didn't see that laid out when everybody greeting them was super friendly and accomodating like those cannibals in The Walking Dead?

Wait when have shippers ever been discret about jumping for joy because a romantic obstacle die?

Most of the times their ones doing the deed via fanfic.

True. I just haven't read a lot of Last Ship fanfic yet and what I've read has Rachel loving Tom from afar, so at least those authors were nice enough to wait.

This is the US Military where one terrorist with a handgun can lock down an entire base. Even at higher states of alert only police are routinely armed with anything more than an ax handle.

Finale was okay. They spent too long getting comfortable with the obviously going to betray them gang and the death of Chandler's wife was so obvious it was predicted by someone else in this very thread last week.

I made the comment last week that they could have been following the storyline of Chandler's family in the US throughout the season like they did with Helo stuck on Caprica in BSG, but now I really see that wouldn't have worked out as well, since part of the power of the scenes where the crew are driving to that facility are seeing what has now become of the US. It really makes the viewer feel like they were spending a tour of duty aboard the Nathan James and now, we get to experience the same reactions as the crew at seeing what has become of the US.

So who are those officers Mommy Granderson has with her? Army? National Guard? Has this show just turned into Army vs. Navy?

Predictions on where we might go from here? Although the show has really deviated from the book now, I still see some potential directions this story could go based on the book. I suspect when the Nathan James makes their getaway from Baltimore and heads back out to sea, they'll make their way back to that island they partied at several weeks back and set up base there. Though that might carry the risk of retreading that Last Resort show. Maybe the Russian Admiral survived the destruction of his ship, meets up with them and becomes a grudging ally?

1) Yes, saw the ending from a mile away (so to speak.)

2) What do you want to bet that the Captain's wife ISN'T DEAD?! (She was probably the first one 'treated' of the group that made it to 'Olympia' -- and I'm sure that Granderson's people at Olympia immediately reported who she was, and Granderson ordered her given a dose of the actual cure -- from the small supply given to them -- and she'll surprisingly show up alive and well as a plot point for Season 2.) Of course Granderson's people told her father and the kids "she didn't make it".
