The Last Ride (New Hank Williams Movie)

I was just over at IMDB and saw a trailer for this , a film about the final three days of Hank Williams' life. It's only got a rating of 5.1 and it had a limited release last year, but it looks like it has a full release (in America anyway) on the 22nd June.

I thought the trailer was alright and it has Kaley Cuoco in it so I hope it comes out in the UK. I can't seem to get my hands on Your Cheatin' Heart. I love biopics of musicians and I love Hank Williams, I'm sure there are a few fans around here as well.

I'm a big Hank Williams fan; Your Cheatin' Heart is not as bad as I thought it might be when I heard of George Hamilton playing HW, but it's still not very good. Hamilton is actually OK, but doesn't show much of a humorous or fun side, which HW definitely had. Susan Oliver is always great. But the script is heavily fictionalized and heavy handed, and the music doesn't capture the spark of HW as a performer. It's interesting as a period example of a music biopic, I guess, but I am not usually a fan of that type of movie.

I have heard a little about The Last Ride, I don't have high hopes but will see what my local reviewers say.

It's a shame we're not getting a full-on biopic really, I read a good biography of Hank Williams recently. This seems like it's more in the vein of My Week with Marilyn.

There are a few reviews by users on IMDB but also they linked to this one, who seemed to like it.

The Last Ride is a beautiful film about an unforgettable journey involving two men, one of whom never got the chance to realize his beauty and the other whose journey of self-discovery had just begun.
