The kid Amelia Pond would actually have been an OK compainons

Her accent actually sounded rather tame to me, more American than anything.

Anyway, um no, no child companions please, that just wouldn't work, and the Doctor would in no way do that, he knows better.

What I want to see, is an ALIEN companion for a change.

Well, I don't generally have trouble with Scottish accents on television, but many child actors - often the most natural and interesting among them - don't enunciate particularly well.

Well, I had no trouble understanding her.

Little Amelia there would have looked like "Sarah Jane Adventures"

Oh, she'd be quite a bit younger than anyone on SJA. Still, my only objection to Who going the SJA route is that, well, it's already being done.....otherwise, SJA is lots of fun.

I recognize the dramatic problems that would arise from having a kid on the show. See: WAAAAALLLLLLTTTTT! Still, she would have been fun to have around for a little while.

Upon further though, I think it could work IF there had also been an older companion on board, a women, who basically took care of her, instead of the Doctor taking care of her. Maybe even the older Amy, taking care of her younger self, in a weird timey whimey non-pardoxical way, heh.

She could mostly stay inside the TARDIS on their travels, and live in one of the rooms, and would give them the opportunity to show other parts of the TARDIS, cause the little girl could go running around the thing, find hidden rooms, and get lost, making for some interesting episodes. On most of their travels she just stays inside, only every now and then popping out and getting involved in something. That way, we wouldn't see her in EVERY episode, making it easier on the child for the acting laws or whatever for children.

Great idea -- have TWO adults engaging in child endangerment instead of one!

Re: the accent. I had no trouble at all understanding young Amelia. But I've noticed that I seem to have much less trouble understanding most English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish accents than most Americans.

I think it helps if you've watched a good quantity of them. Plus, I work with a couple of Brits and a bunch of "furriners" with all sorts of accents to filter through.

I'm sure it was a pure porn-fest while Jamie, Victoria, or Zoey were on board.

Oooh, and all that time the 4th Doctor and Adric spent alone together. Oooooh *nudge nudge*

Sheesh, people.

Maybe there isn't endangerment here, maybe she snuck on, and they find out about it later on, and then can't get back to the exact moment she came from to send her back? I don't know, but I don't think it has to be child endangerment. All depends on the situations she gets involved in, that's why I said mostly stay in the TARDIS, and we don't see her in EVERY episode.

Those ones were all teenagers. Very different from a 7-year-old.

How so? They're still minors. No difference under the law.

Oh, of course the law recognizes the difference between teenaged runaways and abducted 7-year-olds.

And either way, my point wasn't the legal difference, it was the moral difference.

Nevermind how irresponsible it would be on the Doctor's part to put a 7-year-old little girl in harm's way on a nearly daily basis. A 7-year-old little girl who would look to him for protection and would likely do whatever he told her.

I think abducted is a strong word. If she chooses to go with him, as it looked like she was, it isn't abduction. Now, if she went against her will, then it would be abduction.

And he'd hardly be any worse than an aunt who leaves her home alone and unsupervised.

I also hardly think the Doctor would go dragging her into the middle of obviously dangerous situations.

Am I the only one whos a bit disgusted at how people automatically thing 'omg pedophile!' when theres a grown man and a child in the same scene? Kinda shows what twisted fucks a lot of people have become. *insert appropriate angry face*

Of course not. Was your comment directed at me? Because I was not thinking "omg pedophile" for myself, but it did occur to me that it's what the tabloids might well think. Personally, I think the awe and wonder of a child and the awe and wonder of a Timelord would go together wonderfully. It's an endlessly interesting dynamic I wish they could explore. In fact I love the image of Amelia and 11 standing hand in hand at the end of the hospital ward because it made me think of what great adventures they could have had, if things were different.

Not to worry, I couldn't agree with you more. Your comment just brought up a pet peeve of mine. I'm just annoyed at the public in general.
