The Janeway Way...

Sorry tallifer - misread your post.

But yes, she was an Admiral in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Interesting point: IF Voyager had gone through the wormhole - no more Delta Quadrant and no more Voyager, so it was never going to happen. Besides, in this situation, Janeway's personal ethics prevent her from harming the primitives (her ethics are very close to Platonic in nature, as are Kirks).

This is where people just get sucked in by great stories - in episodic scripted TV, each week the hero's are in danger, about to be killed or whatever but we know they will survive because there is an episode next week. So I sort of find arguments saying characters should make some decisions that would end a series to be rather pointless - even if the decisions seem a little misguided.

All Star Trek series have their strong episodes and a few that are best forgotten - sure this wasn't one of Voyagers best, but it was far from the worst.

Teacake: Love the PIC!!!!

I loved that ep because it really showcased how seriously the Ferengi take their beliefs. They were willing to exist the rest of their lives in another quadrant completely cut off from Ferengi life because they were impossibly wealthy.

Am I the only one that remembers Janeway and Tuvok sharpening spears to put down a native population in Basics?

I believe you are Guy, because the Basics I remember is Janeway and Tuvok sharpening spears and arrows to defend themselves from a native population attack because they had no other weapons, humane or inhumane, having been marooned with nothing but the clothing on their backs.

There is quite a bit of difference between a stranded crew and a dead one.

But Chakotay proved that they weren't dicks through a deus ex machina act of bravery and then talked to the savages... Janeway was so over diplomacy by the time they took Kes because surely things would calm down after there were a few piles of corpses to hand back to their loved ones.

I'm imagining at the very least that janeway would "harvest" her prisoners hair before she let them go to extend their source of kindling.

Here's my review of "Displaced"
"Displaced" 8/10 rating
A random guy just materializes right in front of Tom and B'elanna in the hallway. He has no idea what happened. This starts happening more and more, but every time an Ilarian shows up, a crewman disappears. When only 40 crewmen are left, and Chak and random Ensign are the only ones left on the bridge, they figure out the Ilarians are doing this. Janeway and Co. are told they are going to live on their new homeworld. It's like an idyllic Earth, except it's a prison.

The crew meet another species who came through a door from his own place. He has a scanner that can find such a door. With the help of the Doctor's reconfigured holoemitter sensor, they find another door and the guy opens it. They find a dark, warm corridor that looks like a ship. Tuvok and Janeway learn that they are no a gigantic contained-biosphere ship. Tom and B'elanna get chased into a biosphere; a cold place where the Ilarians can't handle the temperature.

Janeway gets all "Don't Mess With Me" attitude after she and Tuvok learn how the transswitcher device works. Tuvok transports the two cheif Ilarians from Voyager into the Sarpedion-Ice-Age biosphere and then Janeway there as well. She holds a gun on them until they almost freeze to death and consent to turning all the prisoners loose. This was a good episode with a good ending.
---------

In that episode she was pretty bent on getting her way, even if she had to kill two Ilarians to do it. Her way can be tough at times.
