It's interesting to watch the change over the years: the more Bond films that are made (or, perhaps, the more time passes) the more OHMSS seems to be appreciated.

I'll admit that OHMSS is my favorite of the Bond films. I think that if Connery would have remained for it it would have been pretty much everyone's favorite.

Lazenby is a terrible Bond, for one. For two the depiction of Blofeld is terrible. And for three, the ending reaches so far toward sentimentality, and falls so very short with the lack of emotional resonance preceding it.

For two the depiction of Blofeld is terrible.
To paraphrase the ever-paraphrasable Winston Churchill...it is the worst depiction of Blofeld, except for all those other depictions of Blofeld that have been tried.

Nah. He was best in From Russia with Love and Thunderball. And at least entertaining in You Only Live Twice.

Also, I'm frankly amazed that more people don't hate Octopussy as much as I do. They direct all their Moore hate toward A View to a Kill, which while hardly the best Bond movie ever, still has a coherent plot and an entertaining villain. Octopussy lacks either. Plus: Roger Moore as a circus clown!

^Well, if they'd gone with the obscured Blofeld from his first two appearances, we'd have discovered that Blofeld looked an awful lot like Professor Dent from Dr. No!

I think they cast Christopher Lee as the wrong Bond villain...he would have been an inspired Blofeld.

And Jimmy Dean should have been Leiter in DAF. You've got a tall, lanky, straw-haired Texan standing next to Leiter, who's being played by a short, pudgy, balding New Yorker. WTF?

Perhaps. But I liked him better obscured. Better to never show him, IMO. And having him as the primary, getting-his-hands dirty villain like in YOLT and OHMSS is out of the question. Don't get me started about his participation in ski chases.

I think one of the things I'm most excited about in Craig's Bond tenure is the consistency of Felix Leiter. LONG overdue.

Nothing wrong with discussing the James Bond movies in a thread about the James Bond movies. Since we can only hurt/heal once a day, it keeps the thread from getting stale, and also makes it less spammy.

Not to mention the fact that I started the thread....I officially declare brief side-discussion of various aspects of the Bond films to be on topic.

I think one of the things I'm most excited about in Craig's Bond tenure is the consistency of Felix Leiter. LONG overdue.
If we can't get the character that Fleming described, I'll take consistent. The Leiter thing irks me the most in DAF, because that had to be the most awful casting of Leiter, yet there was the perfect Leiter standing right next to him!
