The Iron Giant-1999

If you're an Iron Giant fan (book and/or movie) and a Pete Townshend fan, I recommend getting Pete's The Iron Man CD (available mostly in close-outs, unfortunately); it was his attempt to adapt the story as a musical, with his ultimate goal to make a musical film (note that Pete is one of the executive producers of Bird's film). The CD is actually much more faithful to the original story. (YouTube video of "A Friend is a Friend" is here.)

If you have the latest, special edition release of the film on DVD, I also highly recommend watching the extras - there's a good featurette on the making of the film.

I'm late to the thread, but add my voice to the chorus who loved the movie and cried at the end. Brad Bird can do no wrong!

Okay..I admit it...I cried...

It happens to the best of us at times. :)

They seriously need to do a sequel to this movie. But it didn't do to good at the BOX OFFICE due to problems with the studio not PRing it enough. But the only way I would be in favor of a sequel is if the same people did it so as to insure quality.

As for crying? Yeah..I did tear up....but then I saw LARS And The Real Girl Last week, and both my wife and I were nearly bawling at the end...

This is a great movie and yes I always end up with a teary eye as he flies up towards the missile. My wife saw the movie for the first time last year and completely broke down during that scene.

The only other scene that can make us both tear up like that consistently is Ivanova's monologue at the end of "Sleeping in Light".

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that album... figures it'd be you. :D I have it on CD and have "Dig" and "I Eat Heavy Metal" on my iPod... and heard The Who play "Dig" live for the first time ever at Foxboro Stadium many moons ago. :D
