The intro for DSC if it were done in '90s style

Nah not a fan of it to be honest, on saying that anything would be better than the theme from Enterprise.

God it was so bad, so much so that I think it actually could have hurt the ratings as I certainly had second thoughts about watching after seeing and hearing it for the first time.

It was just so meh. :barf:

That's better.
I liked this up to the point where the song gets to the chorus. After that, the lyrics veer so far away from the visuals, that it was jarring.

Excellent job! I think I like that tune more than the current one - more of a hummable melody. yes, that was definitely in the 90's/previous Trek style.

I didn't care that, with ENT, they wanted to use a "contemporary" song. And the visuals in the intro looked great. But "Faith of the Heart" -- of all songs -- is what they decided to use? Seriously?
According to Brannon Braga, there was another song he was in favor of using (I forget what it was) but it turned out they couldn't afford the royalties. Faith of the Heart was Rick Berman's choice, and when he got in contact with Diane Warren to inquire about the rights to the song, it turned out she was a Trek fan and pretty much pounced on the opportunity to get one of her songs on Star Trek by only charging a very miniscule fee for royalties.

The song Braga wanted was "Beautiful Day" by U2. It wasn't that they couldn't afford the royalties but rather that U2 flat out refused to let a song of theirs be used for a TV show.

But that same year they were totally okay with allowing Paramount the rights to "Elevation" for that lousy Tomb Raider movie.

Too bad they couldn't have gotten "Beautiful Day"! But I'm convinced now Brannon Braga should be the one to pick out the music, not Rick Berman.

U2 and Lady Croft had prior working arrangements

I liked that very much but I love the Discovery titles. I skipped to get into the spisode when I first watched but gladly watch them now. Love how the TOS bit comes in at the end.

Great job on the video OP

I actually made a version of the ENT titles with Beautiful Day, trying to guess how they might have mixed the song into the credits.

I think the song needs to be faded in a bit more at the beginning and there are some musical notes that would strategically work better at other spots, a little before or after them (it's all about the timing to get exactly the right effect), but I like this intro a lot better. It actually gets me excited about the show. When I see the intro with this music, I think "That's a show I want to watch... right now!"

Well, that and U2 is just more up my alley.

I have no idea why Berman thought he knew better, when the whole idea of using a pop song was to bring in a younger crowd than him. He should have let Braga pick on that basis alone. But I think that the best possible type of song that would have one that had could be upbeat but not saccharine, which is why my other version uses They Might Be Giants. I think a band like them would strike the right tone for an optimistic show about exploration.

The best way to make the U2 song work is to edit it to match the title sequence, much like "Faith of the Heart" was edited from its original four minute running time to a minute and a half.

Berman is a studio guy. He looked at the money and logistics of using U2's Beautiful Day vs. Russell Watson's cover of Faith of the Heart (and who knows what else) and made the shrewder decision.

Presumably, Beautiful Day would've been a cover as well, but who knows what U2 was asking for.

I would very much like to see what TMBG came up with if tasked with writing a song about Lorca.
