Heath Ledger's final movie, from Terry Gilliam, the director of Brazil, 12 Monkeys, The Fisher King, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Also starring Christopher Plummer. Co-starring Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Tom Waits.

Yeah, that's why I hate American trailers, they're more concerned with the action than the story.
Here's what Wikipedia says: In the present day, immortal 1,000-year-old Doctor Parnassus (a human alter ego of God)[5]
(Christopher Plummer) leads a traveling theatre troupe—including a sleight of hand expert, Anton (Andrew Garfield), and a dwarf, Percy (Verne Troyer)—that offers audience members a chance to go beyond reality through a magical mirror in his possession.[6] Parnassus had been able to guide the imagination of others through a deal with the Devil (Tom Waits), who now comes to collect on the arrangement,[7] targeting the doctor's daughter (Lily Cole). The troupe, which is joined by a mysterious outsider named Tony (portrayed by Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell),[8] embark through parallel worlds to rescue the girl.
Originally Tony was going to be just Heath Ledger, but after he died they changed the story so that he changed appearances as the movie went on.

Hmm, a thousand-year old character able to take people on magical adventures, and a character who changes faces on a regular basis... this all sounds familiar somehow... ;)

Familiar yet completely different. Nonetheless, I've been excited about this film since I first heard about it almost two years ago. I simply cannot wait for it.

Does the job nicely. Parnassus has been the subject of highly divisive reviews so far - 8 for, 8 against currently at RT - last I checked it was 6 for, 6 against - so I'm really on the fence on this one.

Don't get me wrong, I like Gilliam, but a bad Gilliam movie is the sort of thing I'd rather not be at.

Again, Terry Gilliam movie. The big bizarre images are frequently much of the point, so it's a fair emphasis. This isn't really a plot that lends itself well to two-minute summaries anyway, so long as audiences get the idea it's weird as hell they probably have been pointed rightly in the general direction.

Yeah, good point. I was curious about this for a while, but now that I saw Baron Munchousen a couple weeks ago, I can't wait.
