Trek has had multiple timelines before. No-one cared when the 'Yesterday's Enterprise' Sela timeline wasn't reset. Nor when alternate versions of Harry Kim or Miles O Brien assumed the roles of the (dead) original versions for the remainder of their respective series.
Then there's the 'anything that can happen, does happen' ethos of 'Parallels'.
Trek XI really didn't do anything that hadn't already been established in Trek. Heck, Dr Who is full of variable timelines.
