The Iconians

illidian

Ensign
Newbie
Rewatching each episode with the Iconians and what is playing out on the Star Trek Online game this race which was so powerfull that its reach was far and fast I really hope that more comes to be known of this race and if they are still pulling strings from the shadows!

The star trek online story is so extremely bad that i just play that game for fun, and ofcourse the star trek feel from the transporters etc in that game. back on your topic, i never really cared much for the iconians. A more interesting question is: Are the Iconians made by the preservers (the guys that planted all the humanoid DNA) And if they are, why would they evolve so much earlier that other sentient species? One quick question, are the iconians humanoid?

200,000 years isn't all that much, in evolutionary terms.

200,000 years is still a huge gap between the iconians achieving warpdrive and the majority of the alpha quadrant achieving warpdrive. We know that the Alpha quadrant was much more empty with warpcapable species during the exploratory missions of the Vulcans. (ST Enterprise) This means that all the warp capable species achieved about the same levels of technology at the same time. In evolutionary terms this would be highly unlikely.

My guess is that the preservers coded the DNA so that all species would evolve on the same timetable, this way there would be a time where the galaxy would be filled with humanoid species that interact with eachother. The Iconians don't fit in this story so i questioned myself and you guys if the Iconians are humanoid.

If the Iconians are humanoid it must mean the preservers made a calculation error on the coding of that specific evolutionary proces of life on the Iconians homeworld. Or something could have sped up the process. (like the planet where the voyager crew watched a primitive humanoid culture evolve into a society that could use the power of anti-matter matter reactions)

That is a good point to bring up that they where very advanced for the longest time and the perservers seeded the planets at the same time but you have to think their are still a good majority of worlds where they haven't made it to the industrial age yet so maybe it has to do with the planet it self on how fast evolution may have started!

Outside of STO, haven't the Iconians only appeared in 1 TNG episode?

We know very little about them, even adding in STO (which indeed has terrible story & dialogue).
I do like STO's idea of bringing them back in some fashion, as well as the design of their ship in the game; it's just the that the execution was poor.

Could've been an interesting race, especially as an antagonist, but we know too little to judge, honestly.

Well, except for Enterprise, since that had only just started airing when that novel series finished.
