The Hungover Thread

So, i'm currently quite hungover and was inspired by the dinner/wearing/purchases threads and thought 'why not create one for being hungover'.

My thinking is this thread could become a way to have a whinge about being hungover and also be about your favourite foods to eat when hungover or how you are going to spend your day hungover etc...

Right now my mind is singularly focused on getting coffee from my favourite coffee shop, eating something fried and greasy and spending the rest of my day watching season 4 TNG and playing birth of the federation.

I had such a shitty day at work yesterday that I proceeded to down much booze at dinner. I'm still getting over it now. But it was worth it.

I quit drinking a while back. Was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I forgot how much better you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally when you are sober.

I like to have the odd drink, but the appeal of drinking to excess has left me (plus being Diabetic, drinking to excess can be problematic) and thus I very rarely get a proper full blown hangover, just a bit of fuzziness in the morning. - Even amazingly for my birthday weekend in Ireland a few weeks ago which involved drinking aplenty.

Anyway, a Scottish Medical student I was camping with in 2001 recommended Irn Bru and most times, when I've needed it, it works.

^Why yes, that's the very reason why it's a brilliant idea to drink when hungover.

Another good hangover cure, or prevention in this case is water before bed. Hydrating post drinking is a good plan as part o being hungover is being dehydrated.

I rarely get hungover, but the Sunday before last was pretty bad. I went to a Halloween party, and three martinis and one botched karaoke of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" later I stumbled home, puked twice, and fell asleep on my bedroom floor with one shoe on.

Sunday I ventured out only once, to get a bottle of Emetrol, which I nursed to depletion during the course of the day.

When I was young and did the binge drinking, I never got hangovers. Around the time I hit 35, a single glass of wine started to make me wake up sore and sluggish. I still drink occasionally, by which I mean once every couple of months is a lot.

To answer the questions, favorite post boozing meals included nachos loaded with everything, the biggest hamburgers I could get (usually involving mushrooms, avocados, and swiss cheese), or the sort of absurdly large breakfast meals found at Denny's.

Gatorade works even better right before bed. It's always a good idea to drink water throughout the night as well. When I'm drinking wine I usually have some sparkling water on the go at the same time.

Drinking water definitely works.
